Divine Tones Hair Boutique 26.03.2021

Not only is Divine Tones celebrating our 6th year in business, Top Choice Awards announced the 2021 Top Choice Award Winners. The guide to Durham Region’s most trusted businesses, and drum roll please... WE WON! Where do I even begin?! Thank you barely does the trick. I am speechless, and eternally grateful. 21 weeks in a twelve month period, I have been forced to keep the doors of Divine Tones closed. (And hopefully there aren’t more to come.) This past year has been a l...ong difficult one to say the least. Without the continued loyalty, love and support of my team, our clients, family and friends neither of these milestones would have been achieved. I thought I knew strong before, but since COVID-19 and the impacts it has had on every single person’s life, I have discovered a whole new STRONG. Not only in myself, but in every person I have the pleasure of speaking with. Reflecting on this year, and the personal emotional rollercoasters I’ve been on I am filled with gratitude, and look forward to sharing my time with you all again soon.

Divine Tones Hair Boutique 09.03.2021

Bye, bye 2020. You have no idea how much each and every one of you have helped me get through that roller coaster ride of a year. Thank you for your compassion, patience, support, and for all of the words of encouragement you’ve provided. Thank you for reminding me, I am strong. To everyone who has walked through the doors at Divine Tones; Thank you for trusting us with your appearance and believing in our success.... Thank you for standing by, waiting for Divine Tones to reopen, allowing myself and my team to return to what we love doing, being your Hair Stylists. This COVID-19 whirlwind is not over yet, but we all feel the hope and are starting to see some light down at the end of that tunnel. I cannot wait to put this lock down behind us. Dying to get back to seeing all of your wonderfully masked faces, talk about how different your holidays were, and importantly, to get creating gorgeous locks again. xoxo Justine

5 Fun Facts About Justine Before choosing Hair Styling as my career path, I was originally enrolled in Georgian College for Visual Arts. I specifically chose Georgian College for their print making studio, because print making was my jam in high school. I decided the day before I needed to pay my tuition that I wanted to explore other career options. I am the middle child in my family, only girl, smooshed between 2 boys.... My first car was a Black ‘86 Monte Carlo. Her name was Sheena. Imagine that, little 17 year old Justine, rollin’ around town in that beast. I have various nicknames that began as a child and then developed as a teen but, kind of fell off in my adult life. Fernie (there were two Justine’s in elementary school, and Fernandez was just too long for kids to say), Tinie (pronounced teeny), Tiner (pronounced teen-er), Stine (pronounced sss-teen), Stiner (pronounced sss-teen-er), Jussie and Jay. I have diagnosed myself with a mild case of Misophonia. My younger brother brought this to my attention yearssss ago. It is a disorder which means sufferers have a strong sensitivity to sounds such as chewing, loud breathing or even repeated pen-clicking, rustling/crinkling of food bags. (Chip bag for example).

I actually love to read in my spare time. You’ll find me reading some very cheesy romantic books. 4. Yesterday we completed our first week back in the salon! - I wanted to get this post up then, but girl, I was exhausted. Although navigating this new normal is a real learning curve, it is so good to be back together as a team, and seeing all of our incredibly supportive guests. It took endless planning and preparation for our return. Of course there were a few hiccups with the original planning on our first day, but we pivoted quickly with ease to adjust those. Everythi...ng that has been implemented for our safety, as well as yours, has been very well received, and that I am grateful for. My incredible team, Christina, Kellie and Alysha have amazed me at how well they have been able to adapt to all of these new changes off the hop without hesitation. I think we all agree that the most difficult part is wearing a mask all day, and maneuvering around our guests masks during the service. The masks are hot, uncomfortable to wear all day long, frustrating that they seem to always sneak up into the waterline of our eyes, and no matter how much water we drink we constantly feel dehydrated. But, if thats the worst part, then I think we are off to a truly amazing start! Thank you to all of our guests who have made it in on our first week, for respecting our protocols and being patient with us. To those of you still patiently waiting our calls to schedule your appointment, keep your phones near by! Due to suspending blow drying services for our first few weeks back, we have been able to get through a huge part of our list just in our first week back. The wait times have significantly been reduced and we appreciate everyones understanding and patience regarding this decision. Not only does it benefit everyone waiting to get an appointment, it also reduces spreading germs further than 6 feet in the air. With the threat of COVID-19 still lingering, this has immensely helped us get more comfortable being back behind the chair. Much love, Justine

I know we sent out information stating that we would officially be reopening on June 23rd. However, we have pushed that back by one more day in order to have a Health and Safety Inspection prior to our return. We wanted to be extra diligent before our return to beautifying you. By taking this additional step, it will allow us, as well as you to be at ease when visiting Divine Tones in the upcoming days/weeks/months. You can view all the details about our return by clicking t...he link, on the post pinned to the top of our Facebook page. We have begun the rescheduling process for June 24-June 27, but we will not be going beyond those dates until our inspection is complete! At that time we will continue contacting everyone on our list to get your appointment times locked in! Please keep in mind that at this point we have 13 weeks of appointments that we will be needing to work back into our calendar. On top of those appointments we will require additional time set aside for sanitizing and disinfecting, it is going to take some time to get everyone through the doors. @divinetoneshairboutique #reopeningsoon #divinetoneshairboutique #oshawasalon #oshawahairstylist #oshawahairsalon #oshawastylist #oshawa #durhamcollege #uoit #oshawasmallbusiness #goldwellsalon

Attention Valued Guests: The health and well being of our guests, team and our community comes first. While we continue anticipating for a date that we may reopen again, I am busy formalizing sanitization, disinfection and safety protocols for our team members and all guests.... As we navigate through this pandemic your experiences will look a little different from your last visit with us. But, we will continue to go to great lengths to ensure everyone is comfortable within our establishment. Justine Fernandez Owner/Operator

At Divine Tones we have this incredible chemistry as a team, and have been able to build this amazing culture within the four walls that make up the salons exterior. That is something that hasnt been remotely replaceable during the Covid-19 lock down. I look forward to the days where we can all be together again. I deeply miss visiting with all of our clients. The daily chatter, laughter and excitement seems like a distant memory. . Although Ive been away from the salon,... that hasnt slowed down my schedule. I have devoted a lot of time advocating a voice for myself and fellow small business owners during these unprecedented times. Ive been fortunate enough to dedicate 1-2 hours of my time to education each day. Reintroduced some past hobbies; drawing, painting and even making friendship bracelets - as a stylist, my hands need to keep busy or I find myself overwhelmed with anxiety. Then there has been a lot of planning. Planning, replanning then replanning some more for the reopening of the Divine Tones Hair Boutique. Through all of this I have learned that creatively cannot be contained. It will flow no matter the circumstances and it has no limitations. Its been incredible to see you all getting creative through your posts, whether or not you believe you were being creative, I am here to tell you, you were. From the drive by birthday parades, baking, cooking, drawing, painting, photography, home improvements, home schooling your children, to all the amazing ways other businesses have been able to pivot their business model to serve our communities. Creativity is a beautiful thing. My best advice is to embrace it like never before! Love, Justine

HEY EVERYONE, I MISS MY HAIR BESTIES. Since weve been closed Ive taken this time to just relax and focus on myself with some self care. For me that involves lots of face and hair masks, cooking dinners i normally wouldnt have time for as well as baking some sweet treats. Ive been spending lots of time with my doggies and Ive given them a haircut or 2. A hidden talent I didnt know I had! Ive been able to tend to my plant babies and welcome some new ones to the fam.... I did a leave count and I have 20 house plants!! Theyre all thriving, living there best life !! Im also super excited because its garden season so I was able to set up my mini garden again! . Since weve been closed lve missed catching up with clients and the Divine Team! I miss the hustle and bustle in the salon on sunny Saturday! Covid-19 restrictions have gotten in the way of themed dinner nights with my friends, we always have sangria, laugh till we cry and the pups get to visit too! I MISS THEM! . What Im looking forward to the most is, getting back into my routine and in my element where I can be creative. Give me all the hairs because Im readdddyyyyyyy . If theres one thing Ive learned since this has all happened is we ALL NEEDED this time to chill out. We needed to reconnect with ourselves. Our lives are always so hectic and busy. Im feeling very lucky to have been able to relax at home . I Cant wait to see everyone again, xo Christina See more

Divine Tones is a certified SUSTAINABLE salon! North American salons create 877 lbs PER MINUTE! - Insane! By partnering with Green Circle Salons for the past 5 years we are able to recycle 95% of the waste we produce. 90% of our permanent and semi permanent colour line are stored in canisters as shown above. 10% of these shades we carry in tubes -only because they are not offered in canisters! These @goldwellca canisters already produce 65% less waste than competitor colou...r brands! Heck yes! . After we finish a colour application, any left over colour is stored in a bin and is later then taken away by @greencirclesalons. The colour is then put through an incineration process. They separate the chemical from the water to create clean water then, the chemical is re-infused back into our power grids for clean energy! Divine Tones Hair Boutique 02.03.2020

Divine Tones is a certified SUSTAINABLE salon! Did you know that in Canada and the U.S. the salon industry throws out 109,512 lbs of foil and colour tubes PER DAY?! Unfortunately, these metals used in salon are contaminated and not accepted by local recycling, so in the trash they go. BUT NOT US! DIVINE TONES HAIR BOUTIQUE recycles 95% of our waste with @greencirclesalons. This type of waste will take a minimum of 80-100 years to just begin the decomposition process in our... landfills. Not to mention aluminium is infinitely recyclable! By recycling our waste with Green Circle Salons, our metals are turned into things such as bicycle frames and car parts! We have been doing our part to keep our waste out of landfills since the start. . Divine Tones is a certified SUSTAINABLE salon! And - we have been since the moment we opened. For 5 years we have been partnered with @greencirclesalons, which allows us to recycle 95% of the waste we produce. This includes all metals, plastics, paper, left over colour and even hair clippings! Hair clippings tied up in a plastic bag will begin to produce methane gas, which is 30x more potent than carbon dioxide. The re-purposed hair clippings are used for various things su...ch as storm water filtration, commercial insulation, humanitarian efforts and soaking up oil spills! Hair is more absorbent than any other synthetic fibres being used for spills, not to mention hair can absorb 12x its weight in oil! KICK ASS! . Happy Earth Day! separate your waste start composting cut down/out disposable plastics use reusable bags for shopping use LED light bulbs If you arent already doing these things it is time to start! Retail Products Divine Tones Hair Boutique will NOT be providing store front pick up or delivery options for Home Care products. Here are the reasons why: 1 We are mandated to be closed. During our voluntary closure, we provided store front contactless pick up, -on one day only- for those of you that wished to stock up before all non-essential businesses were mandated to close. We realize it was a short window, but we did our best to be accommodating.... 2 We are doing our part in flattening the curve for our front line workers, so we will not be encouraging people to leave their homes. 3 Community spread: delivery sounds ideal, but this is putting our team and families at risk of contracting and spreading the virus between each other by entering the salon to pack product and take over the phone payments. - as we all have been visiting essential places (grocery stores and our significant others are in the essential work force). We do not have PPE. We truly appreciate those of you that have shown interest in buying our home care products to support our business! But we are doing what is best for our community and our own safety. There is a bigger picture at hand, and we all need to do our part and be mindful of it. #stayhomeoshawa #divinetoneshairboutique #oshawasalon #oshawahairstylist #oshawahairsalon #oshawastylist #oshawa #durhamcollege #uoit #oshawasmallbusiness #goldwellsalon #stayhomecanada

Divine Tones Hair Boutique 18.12.2019

Following todays government announcement, we have decided in the best interest of our team and patrons that Divine Tones temporarily closes down. During this sensitive time we have been doing the best we can, with the public information that we have been given. We have and will remain taking things hour by hour, day by day. At this time, all appointments scheduled until March 30th have been cancelled. We will not be rescheduling any of these appointments until we are back t...o full operations. We will be reassessing this rapidly changing situation on March 30th and we will proceed from there. I want to take a moment to thank my incredible staff and all of our amazing guests who have been so supportive and patient during these trying times. So much love! - Justine

Divine Tones Hair Boutique 29.11.2019

A message from Justine After careful thought and consideration surrounding the Covid-19 outbreak, we have made the decision to work on a semi private appointment basis with modified hours. As a micro small business the decision making process regarding this unique time has been increasingly difficult, and we will remain responsible during this rapidly changing situation.... At this current time we have temporarily modified our hours. March 18th-March 20th Divine Tones will be operating from 10am-4pm and March 21st 9am-3pm. In order to protect our team and our guests there will be strict guidelines for all persons to follow. Please see below. -Justine, Christina and Kellie will be working individually on one guest start to finish at a time. This means we will not be accepting other appointments during any colour processing time to avoid the overlap of guests. -A max capacity of 6 people in the salon at one time. -The salon doors will be locked to allow us time to properly disinfect and sanitize before our next guest. As well to limit the amount of people in the salon to no more than 6 at a time. -Should you arrive early please wait in your car we will not be unlocking the door until your appointment time begins. -We ask that you immediately wash your hands with soap and water upon entering the building. -We will only be serving guests who had appointments scheduled for this week prior to this announcement. -Follow the 14 day self isolation if you or someone you have been in contact with has travelled during this sensitive time. -Cancel if you are uncomfortable -Cancel if you are experiencing any flu-like symptoms, cough, fever or difficulty breathing -Until further notice Alysha will not be accepting any clients. We will be keeping a close eye on the situation as it unfolds. At this time Divine Tones is planning to operate in this fashion March 24-29. Should things change at any time we will notify you ASAP. Thank you for being patient with us. We are in this together! Justine Fernandez Ps. Happy St Pattys Day! Low Key Intel: we did some social media planning early last week, and took this photo when it was still acceptable to touch each other.

Divine Tones Hair Boutique 23.11.2019

At this time we would like to address the growing concern regarding Covid-19. Rest assured Divine Tones is closely monitoring the situation and taking all of the necessary precautions. Including increasing our cleaning schedules and disinfectant levels. Having a clean, healthy salon has always been a priority to us. As many of you are aware we have always asked that you reschedule your appointment with us if you are unwell/ill. During this unique situation this is more import...ant than ever. Please notify us if you are experiencing any flu-like symptoms, cough, fever or difficulty breathing and we will happily reschedule your appointment. As recommended by the government we ask that anyone travelling during this time follows the 14 Day self quarantine. Please respect that, reschedule your appointment if the 14 day isolation period has not concluded. The health and safety of all patrons is our number one goal. If any of our team members are experiencing any signs of illness they will not be permitted in the workplace and we will notify you immediately of any changes to your appointments. At this time it is recommended that events of 50 people or more be cancelled. We are a small operating business, with a small team. Our full capacity of clients being serviced plus staff would result in 12 patrons. Until further notice, at this time we will be operating under our regular business hours but, we will be avoiding working at max capacity. If you have an appointment with us during this sensitive time, there will be a strict no friends, or family accompanying you during your appointment policy. This is to ensure and limit the number of people in the salon at any given time. If you are a parent of a child that needs to be accompanied during their appointment we encourage you to reschedule, and we will be in contact with you tomorrow. Thank you for understanding. We are in this together.

Shout out to you! Yes, YOU! For taking the time to read these posts. Thank you for following our journey. Divine Tones celebrated 5 Years in business on February 11, and we couldnt have done it without the love and support from our staff(past and present), clients, followers, family and friends. It has been an absolute pleasure and honour to employ the most courageous souls I have ever encountered. These women have been an integral part of the growth and success of Divine To...nes. What makes them courageous you ask? Hairstyling isnt an easy gig. Our working hours are often the opposite of our families and friends. Although, at Divine Tones it is important to us that we have time off to refresh and stay motivated. As most of you know we are closed the Saturdays of long weekends, for a week in the summer, and some time over the Christmas Holidays. Being a Hair Stylist is strenuous on our bodies, due to standing all day and the repetitive motions to cut and colour hair. This takes a lot of upper body strength. By the end of the week our bodies crave the down time to recover. Not only is our job physically demanding, it is also emotionally demanding. We spend hours developing relationships with our guests, and its not always rainbows and butterflies. Yes, we get to share some of their most beautiful moments but with that also come the tragedies. After all of that, then there is the dedication. Being a Hair Stylist is a life style. We are dedicated to our craft. In a forever evolving industry our training is intensive, it doesnt end with post secondary Beauty School. Generally, people think being a Hair Stylist is glamorous, its not. Its HARD work. It requires working under pressure, problem solving, confidence, creativity, people skills, stamina, and knowledge. Big thanks to the Divine Team Christina, Kellie and Alysha for your consistent hard work. -Justine

Divine Tones Celebrates 5 Years in Business! What can I say, these past 5 years have been a whirl wind. As I sit and reflect on them, I am so incredibly proud of my younger self, who decided to start this venture to open a business. Just over 6 years ago I began taking the steps in order to make this dream of mine a reality. At 24 years old I had just sold my first home, and moved in with my father. Little did either of us know, I would be living with him for longer than inte...nded. I took this opportunity while living with my dad to begin the business planning. Countless hours of research, number crunching and hair pulling. Night after night I fell asleep with my laptop and papers sprawled all over my bed. After finishing my business plan and receiving business loan approval, I had met with a lawyer to discuss a lease agreement. Our entire meeting he put me down, he told me I was going to fail within my first year. He told me that if I wanted to be taken seriously as a business woman, I couldnt have Pink hair and I should be wearing a Ladys Suit. Needless to say I left that meeting feeling pretty beat up. I knew I had a solid business plan, but was he right? Would I fail? - Its possible. But I embraced his negativity and I channeled it into inspiration. Here we are, 5 years later, 30 years old, no longer bunking at my dads, and @divinetoneshairboutique is still going strong. Among other things, being a business owner means working my a$$ off to make sure my staff are paid even when I cant afford to pay myself. Making sure my staff have the necessities to provide our guests with amazing hair. Investing in my staffs education, to continue to evolve their skills to provide outstanding services. Quality control; Over seeing all creations to ensure excellent results. It hasnt been easy, but its worth every moment. I am so proud to be a small business Owner, Employer and a Hairstylist. Small businesses strengthen our communities, being able to employ others is undoubtedly gratifying, and providing needed services and products to my home town has been so incredibly rewarding. -Justine
