As long as you take lessons from a marriage that is no longer then it served a purpose.

I learned today that my ex-husband had passed away last year. My reaction to the news confirmed something I had known for over 20 years now That is, that I had reached a state of emotional neutrality where I neither loved him nor hated him. Yet, his passing serves to properly close that chapter of my life. Life is not that compartmentalized, however, and I know that my experience of being married to him helped to shape me into the person I am today. It taught me to value ...myself instead of having someone else define me, it taught me that the end of a relationship is not the end of the world and that it can open the door to a more mature and meaningful relationship, it taught me to be independent and to always be true to myself. I can't give him all the credit as my journey has been a long one with many mentors along the way. Nonetheless, the breakdown of our marriage led me to re-commence my journey of never-ending growth and for that I am thankful for his having been in my life. May he rest in peace. See more
