Old Montreal Dockers Australian Football Club 10.01.2021

Mid Season Report The Dockers 2018 campaign started in the much the same fashion as their 2017 campaign finished, with some heavy defeats and below par performances. But a Round 3 confidence boosting 4 points over the ‘Bye’ saw the momentum shift and the Dockers gain a foothold in a highly competitive AFL Quebec Men’s League. This swing in fortune could also be attributed to the return of AFL Quebec Veteran Eddie Duff and the Irish general Neil O Brien, who have provided the... Dockers with much need direction and leadership. But surely the standout player of the season so far must be rookie Christopher Savov. The tall utility player is growing in stature and footballing ability with each passing game and is fast becoming an indispensable part of the Docker franchise. He may also be providing a solution to the age-old Docker problem of finally having someone who can ruck. Along with O’Brien in the backline, is Pa Vidal and Daniel Simpson, all of whom are starting to prove very difficult for opposition players to get scores from. Long may their miserly ways continue. Midfielders Simon Chamberland, Cook Hn and Beau Jellis are like fine wines, slowly but surely starting to age well. But sometimes wine can taste like piss even after a multiple year aging process. Hopefully this is not the case, and they continue to mature majestically. Up forward, Randy Andrada is starting to go about his business, proving an able decoy for Ronan Shaughnessy and Corey Crawford to pick up cheap possessions, while snagging himself a few goals in the process. All in all, things are on the up for the Dockers and with Eliot Kempster still to hit some form, one would be forgiven in thinking the Dockers have a clear run to premiership glory. But this is the Dockers, so often the architects of their own down fall. An end of season capitulation or a premiership winning season are both as equally likely to happen. Last Saturday evening, at Le Tequila Bar in St. Henri, saw Jack Robson named the Old Montreal Dockers Player’s Player of the Year for 2015. Jack is in the inaugural winner of the Shaughnessy cup, the award handed out to the Old Montreal Dockers best player, as voted for by their peers. Well done Jack and here’s to an even better 2016 season for him and the Old Montreal Dockers!
