Here's why the HFLC 12 week program is SO GREAT: 1) For most people, achieving weight loss is not as simple as just 'eating healthier'. If only it were that easy. This program bridges that gap as it teaches you HOW to eat in such a way as to lower your fat storage hormones. This leads to weight loss, fewer cravings, and more stabilized blood sugar so you feel satisfied and more energetic. 2) You get meal plans, shopping lists and all the tools you need to be successful. (It's... really simple.) 3) As a HUGE BONUS, you'll get access to a private group where you can ask me questions and get support. This also helps with accountability. 4) The plan is very sustainable in the long-run (unlike some similar diets going around) and I will give you tips on maintenance. 5) If you put the work in, YOU WILL see results. That's it in a nutshell :) Learn more: https://doctordow.lpages.co/hflc/ P.S.--Take advantage of the Early Bird special before it's gone!

This is very important information to pass along. Not everyone who calls themselves a 'naturopath' has graduated from an accredited institution (EVEN IF they are able to put your consultation through insurance). In New Brunswick, naturopathic doctors are actually OUTNUMBERED by practitioners who HAVE NOT graduated from accredited programs. Please be aware of this and don't put yourself at risk. If you or someone you know is seeing a 'naturopath' in NB, make sure that they are on the NBAND website or contact the NBAND for more information. https://www.nband.ca/

Got 'brain fog' or difficulty concentrating? Low energy, bloating/gas, wonky bowels... these ailments often run together. It's time to fix your gut. After all, your DIGESTION really is the GATEWAY to your health and I can help to get it back in line if you are READY to do the work. The next session of my 12 week program starts in just over 2 weeks. We got some amazing results from our last 2 groups and I cant wait to see it all happen again. This program teaches a sustainable way to lose weight (and maintain it) without feeling starving...all while reducing your cravings. Make sure that you are on my email list if you want to know more! www.doctordow.ca

As current president of the New Brunswick Association of Naturopathic Doctors, I feel an especially strong need to educate the public about the situation that we face in our province. A complete lack of regulation in NB has allowed well over 150 "naturopaths" to open businesses offering people health advice without having the requisite training to do so. When it comes to your health, are you really willing to cut corners? ... Here is an exhaustive list of Naturopathic Doctors practicing within New Brunswick. These are the individuals who have graduated from 4 year, full time post-graduate programs at accredited institutions and passed 2 sets of rigorous licensing examinations. Did you know that the gut and the thyroid can talk to each other? Its called the gut-thyroid axis. If youve got inflammation, chronic constipation, celiac, leaky gut or an imbalance with your microbiome--your thyroid may suffer the consequences. First, heal the gut!

Dr. Kerri Dow, ND 08.06.2020

Its a thing. Women who set the best of intentions and they know what they should do but they just dont have the energy to follow through with meal prep or make healthy choices, let alone exercise. Not to mention the willpower to get past their cravings...some women feel like theyre stuck in a rut and barely getting through the day to day. Can you relate? If youre tired of feeling tired, give us a call.

Dr. Kerri Dow, ND 30.05.2020

Ive been seeing a lot of women with thyroid issues lately (which isnt really new!) and the common thread is that they are all still suffering from hypothyroid symptoms, despite being medicated. Thankfully, there are lots of options for helping your thyroid symptoms even while taking Synthroid. You dont have to suffer from low energy/fatigue, joint pain, brain fog, hair loss, anxiety, and digestive troubles... AND just because your bloodwork is normal, doesnt mean that... your symptoms arent real. There is MORE that can be done. Give us a call. Also, check out my thyroid newsletter from a few years back. https://www.doctordow.ca//02/The-Epidemic-of-Hypothyroidism

So far, virtual consults have been running quite smoothly. Thank you to everyone who is fortunate enough to be able to keep their appointment. You are helping a small local business keep food on the table. Stay safe. xo

In addition to increased sanitization measures, we are introducing a few more policies to help flatten the curve in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic. [Please see previous post for the full list.]

Dr. Kerri Dow, ND 08.04.2020

Although the situation in New Brunswick is much better than many parts of the world at the moment, here at FNC we also wish to do our part in slowing the spread... of the novel coronavirus so our clinic is implementing the following procedures: o more frequent disinfecting of all surfaces in the clinic, particularly those most likely to come in contact with hands o temporary removal of books and toys from childrens play area o requiring that all patients wash their hands immediately upon entering as well as leaving the clinic o requiring that patients who have recently travelled outside of the region (besides car travel) wait at least 2 weeks before coming into the clinic o requiring that anyone who has developed symptoms of fever, cough, or difficulty breathing since Mar. 1, 2020, does not come to the clinic (rather they should self-isolate and pursue testing for covid-19) o strongly recommending that anyone with a compromised immune system, severe heart or long conditions, and those over 70 years of age avoid coming to the clinic until further notice o transitioning to online telemedicine consultations whenever possible We wish to remind everyone that the most effective means of successfully fighting any viral infection is a healthy immune system and there is an abundance of natural ways to improve the health of your immune system, including exercise, stress management, diet, supplements, and herbal medicines. And, finally, we encourage everyone to use wisdom and compassion when making choices that may affect their own health as well as the health of others in the community. We can, and will, get through this together!

Dr. Kerri Dow, ND 26.03.2020

Stay tuned for an update from us at the Fredericton Naturopathic Clinic regarding what policies we are adopting to protect ourselves, our staff, and our patients. If you are not on my email list, you can sign up here. https://www.doctordow.ca/

The clinic is closed tomorrow so make sure that you have enough supplements to get you through (SIBO patients in particular)!

I stumbled across this quote recently and it really reminded me of healthcare in the Information age. Anyone can google natural remedies for" X condition or even visit a health food store but it takes years of clinical experience (wisdom) to make well-informed decisions about what is best for a given patient at a given time in the context of their overall health. Do you ever feel like youre just treading water? Wake up. Go to work. Feel that afternoon slump. Drink more coffee or grab a sugary treat to get through the rest of the day. Come home. EXHAUSTED. Barely enough energy to make dinner and then youre wanting to be on the couch for the rest of the night.... Overwhelmed. Anxious for no reason. No motivation for anything. Juuuuuust barely getting by. And your lab tests are all fine! No thyroid problem! Theres nothing wrong with you! Its all in your head! (Hint: its not.) This is where I can help. In so many ways. Call me.

Dr. Kerri Dow, ND 01.01.2020

Strange as it may seem, its a thing for some people. Say for instance, you can eat fast food without issue but swap that for a big salad topped with some chickpeas and a whole grain bun on the side....theres gonna be trouble... Ive heard this complaint a number of times with patients who ended up testing positive for SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth).... Heres why. Bacteria LOVE feeding on foods that are high in fermentable carbohydrates. This includes a wide variety of fruits and vegetables as well as whole grains. When bacteria eat, they produce gas. For a person with SIBO, this translates into bloat, gas, reflux, nausea, abdominal discomfort, bowel symptoms, to name a few. So, what does one do? Test for SIBO, for starters. Then we can get to the root of the issue because limiting your diet forever just isnt going to cut it. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a person be able to EXPAND their diet AND get rid of digestive discomfort!

Dr. Kerri Dow, ND 26.12.2019

Do you wake up in the morning with a flat tummy then wind up looking 5 months pregnant by the end of the day? These are all potential signs of SIBO (small intestinal overgrowth). The only way to know if you have it is to get tested! #testdontguess

Dr. Kerri Dow, ND 21.12.2019

If youre suffering from uncomfortable digestive symptoms, I can help. If youre totally confused about which foods are causing your issues (because your symptoms come and go), I can help. If you feel like your diet is restricted to a few safe foods, I can help.... If your symptoms feel better when you avoid eating, I can help. If youre afraid to eat at restaurants because your body will often revolt against you afterwards, I can help. If you dont want to take Metamucil or Restoralax for the rest of your life, I can help. (Psst- Its not ideal to only have a BM 3 times per week). If youre the opposite of the above ^ and you have every washroom in the city mapped out, I can help. If youve tried cutting out certain foods and havent really found enough of a difference, I can help. If youve been told that youve got IBS so you just need to reduce your stress and avoid greasy foods, I can help. These are my favourite puzzles to solve. Let me HELP YOU feel more comfortable and not have to overthink everything you eat! A healthy gut really is the root to good health. Reach out if youd like to set something up.

WHAT IS SIBO? SIBO stands for Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth. So, its an overgrowth of bacteria in your small intestine. This consists of bacteria that normally live in the gastrointestinal tract but they have accumulated in a location not meant for so many bacteria. Its not that these bugs are bad, they are just in the wrong spot as we want most of our bacteria to stay in the large intestine.... Somewhere, a kink in the system has allowed bacteria to accumulate and cause the overgrowth. There are many reasons why this can happen and, once it does, youll want to take measures to get them out. Changing your diet can MANAGE symptoms to a degree (in some cases more than others), but it wont fix the problem (looking at you, low FODMAP). Symptoms of SIBO (some people have all; some only 1-2): -Bloating (often worse by the end of the day; often better when fasting) -Gas (from either end) -Food intolerances (certain fruits & veggies, bread, and often dairy as well). Most patients with SIBO notice that certain foods bother them. They may also become frustrated because certain foods will only seem to bother them some of the time, so it can become difficult to know what to eat. In more severe cases, patients will say there are only 4-5 foods they can eat that DONT cause discomfort. -Constipation and/or diarrhea (though, sometimes there is no issue in this realm) -Abdominal pain or discomfort; sometimes a feeling of trapped gas -Reflux -Nausea SIBO is actually the #1 cause of IBS! Therefore testing and treating for SIBO can go a long way in helping to relieve your digestive symptoms and eliminate the fear of food.

Our mental health is every bit as important as our physical health. I think, for a variety of reasons, MANY of us are struggling much of the time. I truly and firmly believe that everyone should see a counsellor or therapist at some point in their life. Personally, its been the most valuable thing that Ive ever done for my own wellbeing and I continue to go for maintenance. Theres always something to sort through.... And who doesnt like talking about themselves for an hour? Break the stigma. Talk to someone. If you dont like THAT someone, find a different someone. (This is where most people get tripped up. Its worth the extra effort.) I send a lot of folks to this gal. They really like her. Shes nice and very good at what she does. Check her out. No referral necessary. Remember: the only way OUT is THROUGH. https://www.facebook.com/truenorthstacey/?__tn__=%2Cd%2CP-R&eid=ARApX_yMC9kNECu6e4xWCoQKIOaoY9cxzIdHG1eeUo7lfk-a9lTdmGfyl_7cYJyySXnWn3kXwoIpjSsy
