You’ve probably heard of traditional acupuncture, which uses small needles to stimulate points throughout your body, including your ears. But there’s another type of acupuncture that focuses exclusively on your ears. It’s called auricular acupuncture. In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), acupuncture is based on the theory that your health depends on the flow of qi (energy) in your body. This energy travels along invisible pathways, known as meridians, that are found throug...hout the body. A blocked or disrupted flow of qi can have a negative effect on your physical and mental health. Acupuncture aims to restore the flow of qi by resolving any blockages or disruption. Traditional acupuncture does this by targeting points found throughout your body, including your ears. People use auricular acupuncture to tackle a range of health concerns, including: chronic pain, especially low back pain migraine anxiety insomnia cancer pain and chemotherapy side effects weight loss substance use disorder depression digestive issues allergies smoking cessation If you're interested in learning more about a regular acupuncture, book an appointment with Dr. Heather van der Geest, ND today! @baseline_wellness @doctorheathernd

Treating pain with hot and cold can be extremely effective for a number of different conditions and injuries. The tricky part is knowing what situations call for hot, and which for cold. Sometimes a single treatment will even include both. As a general rule of thumb, an acute injury with swelling and inflammation usually ice is better. And for muscle pain and stiffness, heat is better. It is always best to consult your doctor to determine which treatment (or both) is right f...or your pain or injury. There are times that excess ice/cold treatment can delay an injury from healing. If you have an acute or chronic injury (or know someone who does)- book an appointment with Dr. Heather and let's make a treatment plan that is right for you so you can get back to the activities you love Dr. Heather van der Geest, Naturopathic Physician @doctorheathernd Baseline Health and Wellness @baseline_wellness ---- #physicalmedicineandrehabilitation #painmanagementsolutions #physicalmedicine #injurymanagement #painscience #exercisetherapy #wholebodyhealth #medicalprofessionals #sportsinjuries #painreliever #injuryrehab #naturalpainrelief #preventativehealth #healthishappiness #bodyhealth #healtheducation #naturopathic #investinyourhealth #injuryrecovery #backpainrelief #jointpain #soremuscles #lowbackpain #sportsinjury #kneepain #physicalhealth #painmanagement #painfree #injuryprevention #painrelief

What is Ozone Therapy? Ozone therapy aims to increase oxygen capacity in the body to promote healing through the introduction of ozone gas. Ozone improves our cells ability to utilize oxygen which leads to widespread systemic effects that can positively influence our overall health. As we age, our body's ability to utilize oxygen decreases. Less efficient transport and usage of oxygen impairs vital chemical reactions necessary to remain healthy. Ozone works to promote oxygena...tion, improve energy production and metabolism, modulate our immune system, and acts as a direct anti-microbial agent by destroying pathogens, such as fungi, viruses, and bacteria. The immune-modulating and anti-infectious effects of these treatments can lead to improvements in acute and chronic infections, as well as autoimmune conditions. Ozone therapy improves oxygen utilization within mitochondria, the energy factories of the cells. These treatments also modulate the immune system and inflammation by affecting cytokine production and antioxidant enzyme systems. Many signs of aging and chronic diseases have been linked to decreased oxygen utilization and poor mitochondrial health. By improving both of these factors it can lead to widespread improvements in health. Ozone therapy can be delivered intravenously, enabling a systemic treatment. When ozone is delivered intravenously, it is known as major autohemotherapy (MAH). Happy WORLD DIABETES DAY, and Happy Birthday Sir Frederick Banting (the man who discovered Insulin) I owe my life to this man, and his team. Without Sir Banting's hard work, dedication and generosity to the Discovery of Insulin, I would not be alive today. I have chosen a career in Medicine so that I can also help others with their health concerns and I am so grateful to be able to live my best life, and love my job each day!... Thank you again If you have questions about DIABETES MANAGEMENT please feel free to private message me, or leave your questions below. I love educating and teaching people about their health and how they can take an active role in their health journey. @doctorheathernd #diabetes #livingwithdiabetes #diabetesmanagement #doctorasteacher #takecontrolofyourhealth #worlddiabetesday #sirfrederickbanting #bantingandbest

Both types affect the way the body regulates blood sugar levels. Glucose is the fuel that feeds the body’s cells; Insulin is the key. People with type 1 don’t produce insulin. People with type 2 don’t respond to insulin as well as they should & later in the disease don’t make enough insulin. Both types of diabetes lead to high blood sugar levels, increasing the risk of complications. If not managed type 1 & 2 can lead to symptoms of: ... - urinating frequently - feeling very hungry & thirsty - feeling very fatigued - having blurry vision - having cuts or sores that don’t heal properly - weight loss - irritability or mood changes - numbness & tingling in hands & feet Good glucose management reduces the risk of complications Type 1 & 2 present in different ways Type 1 develops quickly. Once known as juvenile diabetes, this type usually develops in childhood or adolescence. Many people with type 2 won’t have symptoms for many years & their symptoms often develop slowly over time. Some people with type 2 have no symptoms & don’t discover they have diabetes until complications arise. In people with type 1, the immune system mistakes the body’s own cells for foreign invaders. The immune system attacks & destroys the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. After these beta cells are destroyed, the body is unable to produce insulin. It's unknown why the immune system attacks the body’s own cells but it may have to do with genetic & environmental factors such as exposure to viruses. People with type 2 have insulin resistance. The body still produces insulin, but is unable to use it effectively. Lifestyle factors (inactivity, carrying excess weight) may contribute to insulin resistance. When type 2 develops the pancreas will compensate by producing more insulin. The body is unable to effectively use insulin & glucose accumulates in the bloodstream. For more information on DIABETES MANAGEMENT, book an appointment w/ Dr. Heather (your diabetes doc) @doctorheathernd
