Dodgeball may still be finding its feet as a global sport, but WDBF president Duane Wysynski says the game has a community appeal that provides a platform for post-pandemic growth.

Dodgeball Canada Nationals Announcement Edmonton, AB Dodgeball Canada (DC) Dodgeball Canada has made the difficult decision to cancel the National Championsh...ips for 2021. We were very hopeful that conditions around the pandemic would have allowed for us to be back on the courts. Unfortunately, this has not been the case for most provinces. Dodgeball Canada consulted with the PSOs and the City of Edmonton, and we were unsuccessful at devising a logistical plan that abided by government regulations and ensured the safety of our athletes. All parties agreed that while a return to competitive play at the highest level is the goal, we cannot do so at the expense of athlete safety and the long-term well-being of the sport. Leagues may continue to explore options for competitions that can occur within local guidelines and planning for Nationals in 2022 will begin immediately with more information to be shared in the coming weeks. The postponement of the WDBF World Championships to 2022, as well, means that the National Teams program will be on hold this season and will undergo substantial changes with respect to compositions, selections, and operations. We would like to thank Dodgeball Edmonton and the City of Edmonton for their patience, tireless efforts, and ongoing commitment to hosting the 2020 and 2021 Nationals. We truly wish we were all planning a much-needed come back to our beloved sport. We will use this opportunity to continue working behind the scenes to plan for great new things for Nationals in 2022. Sports have a damaging obsession with how women look, especially Black women. As we continue toward ensuring sport is truly inclusive, we must understand these experiences. https://www.sportsnet.ca//sports-weaponize-racist-beauty-/
Wait until you see what Dodgeball Ontario has planned. Just because COVID-19 has taken us off the courts (temporarily) doesn’t mean we can’t have fun anymore! Stay tuned... : @gabrielgarethfoo

Happy Holidays & Happy New Year DO Family! It's hard to believe the end of 2020 is (finally) upon us. Despite all the hurdles, we did reach some special milestones:... 267 individual members (259 high-performance athletes & 8 recreational athletes) 8 leagues (Downtown Dodgeball, Dodgeball Toronto, London Dodgeball League, Grimsby Smash, Windsor Essex Dodgeball, Pro Sports Dodgeball, Sudbury Dodgeball League, & Dodgeball Ottawa) 32 Provincial teams (20 men's & 12 women's) 48 Provincial referees 3 new programs launched (DOWN, coaching certification, & women's & Provincials prep skills clinics) 9 teams qualified for Nationals (5 men's & 4 women's) This may not have been the year we planned for, but we are grateful for the opportunity to focus on building the foundation that will support the development of dodgeball across Ontario. Stay safe and stay healthy! See you on the courts in 2021 (hopefully!)
- - -, Our final ‘Meet the DO-ers’ post comes from Hope Aquino-Chien from the London Dodgeball League - just in time for the holidays! "The Frosted Foxtail is a passion project that began as a creative outlet and quickly grew to so much more. I create custom sugar cookies for any and all occasions, adding a personalized touch to a special gift. Creating edible cookie art and bringing a smile to someone's day is really just the icing on th...e cookie. It's easy to get swept up with the crowd, especially this time of year. I do recognize that it's not realistic to buy everything local, but it truly makes a difference to your small business owners when you do. So much work and thought is put into their products and services for their community and it's important to show support in return - choose to invest in them and your local community.
