Happy Sunday Everyone. Sally here. As the Red Barn is not opening up I would like to offer Plein Aire painting at my home on Wednesday’s (Weather permitting) from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Of course you can also bring any of your own projects to work on if you prefer, but the idea is that we have a place to gather until the Red Barn is open once again.... Social distancing will be in place and you should bring your own art supplies, table or easel, a chair, an umbrella if its too hot, as well as a bag lunch and drinks for yourself. I will provide coffee, water and I have a tent to sit under for lunch. My address is 2495 Samuelson Rd. Hope to see you here. I will have coffee and water. Any questions please phone me at 250-804-3229. This is a combined invitation with the Brush and Palette.

Message for us all from Dan Scott an Australian Landscape Artist. My partner was helping edit the videos for this course and she noted that I seem to spend a lot of time going back and forth trying to fix problems in my paintings. I guess she figured that painting should be a fairly straight-line process for me by now. I had to explain to her that painting is all about problem solving, pushing, testing and experimenting. There is no set path. That is one of the reasons why pa...inting is so challenging. It is kind of like an incredibly complex chess match against yourself. The goal is to create a beautiful painting and every stroke on the canvas equals one move. With every move you are presented with a range of other potential moves. Whether or not you end up with a beautiful painting depends on the quality of your decisions along the way. To add to the difficulty, you are only allowed so many moves before your colors turn to indistinguishable mud on the canvas. The more experienced you are, the more efficient and strategic your decisions will be. But there will always be problems to solve and sometimes you will need to take a few steps back or change your strategy, no matter how experienced you are. Even the great masters encounter problems in their paintings, but they just solve them so effortlessly that most people are unable to see that they experienced problems in the first place. The point is, do not think of painting like a straight-line process. It should never be like that (it would be pretty boring if it was). In module 1 I provide you with a checklist which runs through some of the common problems I encounter. I want to reiterate that you should not treat this like a checklist of things to always avoid. This will only encourage you to paint timidly (and that is a mistake by itself). Treat it more like a mental note of things to be aware of. You can always access the course through your student dashboard. You can always access the course through your student dashboard. In module 2 I will dive into one of the most fascinating aspects of landscape painting - color and light. Happy painting! Kind regards Dan Scott drawpaintacademy.com
