Although I admit that I often wish I could master a skill from the very first trial ... Training and behavior modification are based on our , and . Knowledge comes from understanding a subject. Training with our animal or seeking to change its behavior requires, for example, knowledge about behavior analysis (which is a science that looks at the behavior of individuals). Books, training, conferences, , allow us to gain knowledge. The desire to continually increase our own knowledge is certainly a necessary quality to be a better educator for our pet. "The more I learn, the more I realize I don’t know. The more I realize I don’t know, the more I want to learn." Skills are the ability to use our knowledge efficiently in order to execute a performance. Consistency, organization, cues, timing, reinforcement, application of the fundamentals of behavior sciences, are all skills that must be learned (and sharpen) to be a good trainer for our animal. "Skill is the skeleton of accomplishment" Internships, workshops, seminars, , allow us to gain skills. And one of the best ways to sharpen our skills is to use them. Experience is acquired through practice and repetition of our knowledge and skills. If experience is gained through practice and repetition, so are mistakes too. If we were to make the same mistake over and over again in our training session, we will master the mistake, not the discipline. said "Practice does not make perfect. Please teach your dog a reliable Leave It; it just could save their life. Just now, my dogs were helping me with yard chores. They following me into the garage where I noticed a field mouse dying on the floor. I don’t know if she was poisoned, or diseased, but I don’t want my dogs eating her. I told them to leave it, then out, and closed the door behind them. Not all of my dogs have a high level of training, but they have the basics that every dog needs. ...
