Dolce Music Therapy 06.02.2021

Dolce Music Therapy would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season! See you in 2021!

Dolce Music Therapy 19.01.2021

It’s the final collaboration!! Over the last five weeks, Dolce Music Therapy has been partnering with other MTAs to learn more about the specific populations that they serve! This week I reached out to @mta.kimberly who lives and works in the Kingston, Ontario area. Kim holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (BA), a Masters of Music Therapy (MMT), and is a Certified Music Therapist (MTA) who is also trained in Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) and Guided Imagery in Music (GIM) t...o Level 1. A lot of clinical work focuses on mental health, especially supporting clients with depression and anxiety. However, Kim has also worked in forensic settings, with youth and adults who are at risk, and with individuals who have developmental delays and other diagnoses. In this post, she talks about how music therapy can support those dealing with mental health disorders, and why using music is especially effective! One of the words I would use to best describe Kim is passionate! When she sets her mind to it, she moves full force ahead, especially when it comes to advocating for the field of music therapy! Along with her clinical work, Kim is the co-creator and host of Able Voice Podcast. She and @mtahayley have created a fantastic resource for those in the field to gain insights and learn! The podcast can be found on Spotify, Apple Podcast, Google Play and Podbay. Be sure to check it out! This concludes my collaboration project! Of course I am always open to new ideas so feel free to reach out! Stayed tuned for a new post series in the new year! . . #DolceMusicTherapy #CertifiedMTA #MusicTherapy #MentalHealth #MTAKimberly #AbleVoicePodcast #Collaboration #KeyToYourHealth

Week four at collaboration station! Over the last month Dolce Music Therapy has been partnering with other certified music therapists (MTAs) to learn about what music therapy looks like in a variety of settings. Dorothy M. Davies, BMT, MA, MTA, NMT-Fellow of @cornerstonemusictherapy works out of Markham/Stouffville and York Region. She works with many client populations including kids, seniors, and people who have had strokes and brain injuries. She uses her training, includ...ing advanced Neurological Music Therapy (NMT) training to best support her clients and meet their needs! In this post, she gives a great overview of common goals that are often worked towards when practicing music therapy in long term care. Many music therapist work in this population so this gives some great insight into how a lot of MTAs spend their clinical work time! Check it out and let me know what you think! I have one more collaboration post set up before breaking for the holiday season! Let me know if this project has been insightful and if you’d like me to keep going! It’s certainly been a lot of fun for me to catch up with some of my colleagues I hope you’ve enjoyed it too!! . . #DolceMusicTherapy #CertifiedMTA #MusicTherapy #NeurologicMusicTherapy #KeyToYourHealth #LaurierMusic #ClassOf2016 #WhereHasTheTimeGone

Mid-week meditation time! If you can count to ten and breath you have the skills to complete this mindful moment! I love this quick and easy technique to help centre myself when I’m feeling stressed, or to help me wind down at the end of the day. Give it a try and let me know how you feel. Usually I encourage you to take deep belly breaths. Do that for the first three breaths (slide 1), but once you start counting make sure you return to your normal breathing rate so you don...’t get light headed . . #DolceMusicTherapy #MusicTherapy #CertifiedMTA #MidWeekMeditation #AlwaysReturnToYourBreath #NoFaintingAllowed See more

Collaboration III! Dolce Music Therapy is continuing to connect with MTAs to learn more about what music therapy looks like for specific populations and settings. This week I asked @rachelwebster.mta to write about music therapy in specialized schools called learning centres. Rachel is a certified music therapist working in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She works with many populations but has recently started a new program in a learning centre, using her music therapy and neurologica...l music therapy skills. In this post she writes about how a music therapist (MTA) might approach a program like this, and the important details to discuss with the centre when starting up a new program. In addition to working with kids, Rachel is currently working on some other very cool projects! If you haven’t checked out her videos Charles using an adapted guitar, you absolutely should...it’s VERY cool! You can find them on her instagram page Interested in collaborating with Dolce? Feel free to reach out to me! And as always, comments and questions are welcomed below! . . #DolceMusicTherapy #MusicTherapy #CertifiedMusicTherapist #Halifax #KeyToYourHealth #LaurierMusic #ClassOf2016 #FeelsLikeYesterday
