Every February, we host an Auction & Dance to raise funds for facility maintenance and modernization activities. Like many other events, this important fundraiser was cancelled due to the pandemic. While we’ll miss seeing you this weekend, we’re especially grateful to our many supporters for generously donating to the Arena, in spite of the circumstances. Join us in supporting Mickey’s Original 6 Milk Drive for the Glace Bay Food Bank Society, by donating canned or powered milk on Sunday, November 1st! Please place all donations in the police vehicle parked near the Dominion Arena entrance. Glace Bay Minor Hockey & Meco Construction DKI will generously match all donations received!

Last night, we celebrated Mickey F. Mc Neil’s incredible 40 years of service to Dominion Arena! This Cape Breton Sports Hall of Famer, is our longest standing employee, and well known for his creative ideas, community involvement and big heart. Since founding the Original Six Hockey Tournament in 2003, Mickey has been instrumental in raising thousands of dollars for local charities. He also fosters a strong sense of community by bringing the people of Dominion and surrounding areas together, with events like the RCMP Musical Ride and Stanley Cup visit. Join us in thanking Mickey for his many contributions to the Arena and our community over the years! Please also share your favourite photos of him in the comment section below.

We are also ending our hockey season, effective this evening, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Thanks in advance for doing your part to slow the spread of COVID-19 in our communities. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Our Huff & Puff Oldtimers recently purchased new hockey sweaters, with help from Medical Hall Pharmasave Glace Bay. This group of approximately 3 dozen retirees exemplify the Pharmasave motto Live Well With Pharmasave. In addition to placing an emphasis on a healthy and active lifestyle, the Huff & Puff Oldtimers are community-minded volunteers. They participate in the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign, help with the Santa Clause Parade, sponsor needy families at Christmas, volunteer at the Jason Simmons Memorial Hockey Tournament, as well as provide bursaries to high school graduates. Auction & Dance #DonorSpotlight: All Star Fuels All Star Fuels is a locally owned and operated oil company, based in Glace Bay. Providing the lowest possible price on furnace oil, All Star Fuels serves clients throughout the CBRM and employs 5. Its sister company, All Stars Plumbing & Heating, also serves Glace Bay and surrounding areas, and is well-known for competitive pricing and professional workmanship. Owner and operator, Paul Doucette, was born and raised in Glace Bay.... In addition to running both All Star Fuels and All Stars Plumbing & Heating, Paul continues to fish locally as a part of his family fishing business. Paul’s community ties are strong, and his commitment to community development is evident in his support for several local organizations. Over the years, Paul has generously donated many items to the Dominion Arena Auction & Dance, including fuel/oil services, plumbing/heating services, lobsters and crab. When asked why he supports the Arena, Paul references his personal connection to the facility. He has great memories of playing hockey here, and now thoroughly enjoys attending Glace Bay Minor Hockey with his 5-year-old son, Declan. His 3-year-old daughter, Arleigh, also participates in D&R Dance, which takes place in the MacNeil Room. Family is important to Paul, and he is passionate about the facility remaining well-maintained for future generations. We are extremely grateful for Paul’s generosity and continued support!
