Dear members of the D.V. Community, The Catholic Single Mothers' Network began as yearly retreats at DV 5 years ago. It bore so much fruit that it has now developed into an association called Momentum, dedicated to drawing the gifts, challenges and experiences more fully into the life of the church. You are invited to a Webinar exploring how our church communities can engage single moms and their families within the church. For more information see the registration and Faceb...ook link below and the flyer attached. Dear DV retreatants, We hope all is well with you and your families during this challenging time. Given the current situation, as well as government and local restrictions, Dominus Vobiscum will not be able to run its on-site retreat centre programs for the 2020 summer. This is the first time in 23 years of operation that we have to suspend operations. There are traditions going back to the Old Testament of the importance of sabbaticals in our spiritual journeys (e.g. Ex ...23:10-11, Lev. 25:4). Although this pandemic has a global impact, it is also a call to discernment in our local contexts. This period offers a period of prayer, reflection, renewal and new forms of outreach in the various apostates of the DV mission. There are practical financial issues associated with the closure. With the suspension of operations DV loses most of the income used to offset the substantial expenses that will be incurred in 2020. We estimate that our annual expenses will be close to 20,000 dollars. These include municipal taxation, insurance, school taxes, basic maintenance, basic facilities (hydro, etc), as well as a few projected renovation projects that could be done over the summer. We are planning to offset these expenses in two ways 1. Donations: A special request for donations from participants in various DV apostolates. Many of our participants have been with us for many years. Given the unique circumstances we urge participants in the DV apostolate to consider us in their annual donations. 2. Limited Rentals: We are also exploring the possibility of limited rental of specific cabins for families with a carefully designed set of protocols to ensure safety. Fee Reimbursements: We are also planning to reimburse families who have paid for their 2020 DV week. A number of families have indicated that they wish to waive the reimbursement. Please let us know if you wish a fee reimbursement, and we will forward it as soon as possible. If you do wish to leave your previous payment (or a portion of it) as a donation to the retreat centre, the DV apostolate would welcome your gift and provide a tax receipt for the donation. On line program: We are currently exploring a number of possibilities for summer online programs and exchanges for DV couples, families and youth. We welcome your input on this. This time is also a call to prayer and support for those struggling with health issues, those grieving the loss of loved ones in their immediate or extended families, those facing financial or familial difficulties, those experiencing loneliness, anxiety or depression and the any members of our extended families who are also serving on the front-lines of this evolving crisis. We sincerely welcome your prayers, input, collaboration, and your support as we struggle to move forward during this time. Blessings, Dan and Jackie Cere
