This cuddly girl is Bailey. She came for a visit and everyone was lucky enough to cuddle with her in turn while Dr. Hughes answered all her parents questions. Bailey hopes everyone has a happy Friday!

Adorable Max and Ellie came for a visit. They cuddled in the doctor's lap during their check ups and then snuggled with each other and fell asleep when the doctor spoke with their parents. While curbside service creates some challenges for both pet parents and us, most pets are comfortable, happy, and stress-free. We are all looking forward to a time when we can safely allow everyone back into the clinic!

This sweet girl is Felix and she needs your help. This is from a client that works with a cat rescue and has a difficult situation. Please SHARE to help Felix. "Last Sunday we were able to successfully trap beautiful 2 year old Felix and her three kittens. We understood that Felix and her kittens would all be fostered and offered for adoption. Felix was always friendly while she was outside, and would come right up close when we were putting food outside for her. She woul...d wait at the door for food and given more time we're confident she would have eventually come inside, so we had high hopes that she might be able to find a home. Three days after Felix and her family were caught we found out that the kittens would be fostered but Felix was traumatized and would be spayed and vaccinated and retuned to a life outside. We’re not surprised that she has been thrown off by the transition from outside to inside but 3 days seems like a very short time to pass judgement on her. If anyone is interested in taking a chance on this lovely soul please contact us at: [email protected]."

Happy Weekend! We hope everyone is finding time to relax and play this weekend, like Livy and Sammy - even through Livy hates sharing her stick! Starting Monday we are going back to our regular hours, including being open on evenings of Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. We will continue providing curbside service while we watch how the COVID situation develops and follow the directives of Public Health, as well as our professional ruling bodies. Our goal continues to provide the excellent essential and routine medical, surgical and dental care care to all our patients while making sure our clients and staff are protected and kept safe. We thank you for your patience and understanding in these trying times.

What to do when your people are all home? Cuddle amongst the things that bring you joy and watch your human siblings do stuff. What are your pets doing?

This tick was just removed from a very sweet pup. The tick had not had a chance to feed fully so thankfully the dog wont have to worry about Lyme Disease or other tick-transmitted diseases. Please make sure that your dogs are on their tick prevention now. We have seen many ticks on dogs over the last few weeks of milder weather. Call us if you need tick prevention for your dog.

With curbside service, many people worry about what happens when their pets are separated from them. As adorable Gummy can tell you, she got to cuddle with a bunch of people and then fell asleep in the doctors lap after her check up. We hope everyone stays safe and well as we enter another week of COVID-19 restrictions.

Reminder to everyone that it is Tick Season again! We have had a lot of people calling after finding ticks on their dogs over the last two weeks. Please call if you do not have tick prevention yet, and use it if you have it! Stay safe and healthy! Here is a tick (that left her mouthparts in a pup) still alive! The pet parents took the tick off themselves.

Little Gregory was very suspicious at first, coming to the clinic without his family, but he soon relaxed in the arms of one of our veterinary technicians. We are doing curbside visits to keep all the humans safe and so working extra hard to help the pets be calm and relaxed without their parents by their sides. Who knows what kind of kitten Gregory is?

Heres some key information about COVID-19: The betacoronavirus that causes COVID-19 is SARS-CoV-2 (formerly 2019-nCoV). Person-to-person and community spread is happening now. We at Don Head Village Clinic are continuing to strive to provide the best medicine possible for your pets during these challenging times. We have already put into place practices that should not only protect our staff, but you and your pets. We will remain open as we were deemed essential earlier this week. We want to assure you that our curbside appointments and food/medication pick up will also continue. That being said with reduced staff and appointment times, we are goin...g to be reducing our hours of operation starting next week to: Monday to Friday 8:30 am- 5:00 pm Saturday 8:30 am 12:00 pm (these hours remain the same). We hope that these reductions in hours will only be a short-term measure; we are planning to do this for the next two weeks. Please understand that we are trying to space our appointment times to prevent overlap so pet parent contact in the parking lot will be minimized while making sure that any unwell pet is seen. The following list of near-by referral hospitals are also available to see emergencies 24/7 during this period: 404 Veterinary Referral and Emergency Hospital 905-953-1933 Toronto Animal Health Partners 416-380-7400 Toronto Veterinary Emergency Hospital 416-247-8387 Due to the restraints the COVID-19 virus has placed on all of us, we are trying to fit everyone in. Our staff will do our best to triage your pets needs and schedule appointments when necessary. We are focused on making sure any unwell pets or emergency-care situations will be seen as soon as possible. Healthy pets that are due for their vaccines will be safe if those vaccines are postponed for a month or so. As this public health situation develops, we will ensure everyone remains protected, vaccinated and safe. Tick, Flea and Heartworm Prevention: At this time of the year, we should be starting tick prevention for all our canine pets. Please give the first dose if you have any doses leftover from last year. If you do not, please call us or send an email and we will organize prevention for your pet that you can pick up. We understand that some pets have grown in the last year so we recommend weighing them at home so we may provide you with the most accurate dosage. Heartworm prevention should be started by June 1st, and the four-disease screening blood test (Heartworm, Lyme, Ehrlichia and Anaplasmosis) should be done by this point as well. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 health situation. We hope to soon see some relaxing of the social distancing restrictions we live with now and we look forward to seeing life start to be more normal in the near future. Please dont hesitate to contact us with any questions, suggestions or concerns you may have. Stay safe and be healthy. This handsome boy is Cosmo. He is demonstrating social distancing. We will all get through this.

We at the Don Head Village Animal Clinic recognize that your pets are an important part of your family, and you want to keep your family safe and healthy. A key part of the veterinary oath is to protect and promote public health. In an effort to continue to provide care for our patients and protect our employees and clients, we are ...Continue reading

This delightful kitten is Groot. Being hairless, he is cold all the time. One of our wonderful clients knits pet sweaters and made one for him, too. It brings out Groots startlingly beautiful eyes. Too cold for Groot to go out, but if you can, get out and enjoy the mild weather and lovely sunlight!

"This study predicts that the COVID-19 virus can bind to ACE2 in pigs, ferret, cats and some non-human primates with similar efficiency as it does in people." So when people are ill or on quarantine we should keep them separate from pets because the virus may develop the mutation that will make it be able to affect infect other animals.
