THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE. Donald Simmons passed away suddenly in the late afternoon of Wednesday June 24, 2020 in his 74th year at Nesbit Lodge after a short battle with COVID.... Donald was loved by many people and will be missed by his friends and family. Donald is predeceased by his father John Simmons, his mother Agnes Simmons (nee MacGregor), his stepmother Joan Simmons (nee Foster), his sister Lynn Burke, and his partner, Ken Johnson. His remaining family are niece, Heather Burke (Neil Gaudreault) and nephews David Burke and Ian Burke, as well as many grand and great-grand nephews and nieces. Donald was born on October 24, 1946 in Wallaceburg, Ontario to John and Agnes Simmons. He grew up primarily in Vancouver and Toronto, attending Queens University and graduating with a Law Degree in 1966. Donald worked for Shell Canada, the Toronto Stock Exchange, and in private practise doing Immigration and Mental Health Law. He was an active member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church for many years until his death. He was an eager mental health advocate, an avid boatsman, reader, and fan of Winston Churchill. Donald has resided for the last three years at Nesbit Lodge after he suffered a catastrophic heart attack in 2016 which resulted in significant paralysis. He will be missed by his friends there. Thank you to Meredith, Alex, and Trevor for their kindness and friendship while he resided there. In lieu of flowers, please send any donations to the Mental Health organization of your choice.
