I've always considered myself as someone who likes to learn and discover neat things. So last week when I was baking, I ran out of baking powder!!!.. I said, "Gee I wonder what this stuff is anyway?" Enquiring minds need to know. So here's the scoop To make baking powder, combine half a teaspoon of cream of tartar and a quarter teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda. This provides the equivalent of one teaspoon of baking powder.... And even more interesting for any recipes that call for this: To make self-raising flour add one teaspoon of baking powder (or equivalent homemade) to 110g plain flour. Just in case you find yourself without baking powder like I did..
