ATTENTION! You may be eager to get your yard cleaned up or take a walk to look at the storm damage ect. We are asking folks to look up and pay close attention to the canopy of trees roofs ect there are many damaged trees that have damaged branchs and broken canopys. It is not always easy to see them, so we are Reminding ppl to take a second and make sure its safe above. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Widowmaker_(forestry)
Ready for the clean up!Ready for the clean up!
I Planted this 2016. Me looking at it today and thinking is grown just a little. Best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago, second best is today.
Some pics from a poplar pruning and a removal from the Elkhorn this week. Beautiful weather!
Call us before April 1st for our winter lane clearance pruning rates! (No elm trees may be pruned from April 1st to August 1st as per the annual, provincial wide elm pruning ban)

Trees are happy for this rain
We are thankful for the carbide chain.
Mind your own....
It's that time of the season we need to pay extra attention for nesting areas such as trees, shubs and well...
Give it up for the next 7 generations
Trees are incredibly resilient until they are not. Contact us for a safety inspection and be proactive with your tree care.
Try to avoid stub cuts, dog ears, flush cuts and tear backs! Also avoid maiming yourself! When in doubt call a professional
The positive impact trees have on our daily lives is immeasurable. https://www.facebook.com/117572634987507/posts/2264455320299217/
If you need to get tree work done it might as well be by licensed, insured professionals.
Plant your trees at the same depth as they were previously planted; account for settling. Remove burlap and cages if balled and burlapped, spread out or cut girdling roots if containered. Dig a hole 2 the size of the root ball and back fill with native soil (using mix can cause a well effect that drown roots especially in clay soil). Add a raised berm of soil oitside the root ball to make warering easy. Mulch thicker away from stem and very little by stem/root crown so at do not suffocate this area. Water generously but infrequently to encourage deep water seeking roots. Remove stem gaurd and guide lines after a year or two to avoid rotting bark and week anchor roots. Plant more trees than you wish to keep. They are easier to remove than to grow.
Just be safe and make the right choice, saving a buck isn't worth the risk. Call a professional licenced arborist.
Rain is great at night...
Don't move ash or elm fire wood folks. Slow the spread.
Incase you were wondering....
Got a tree question? It feels even better when the the tree info we give is appreciated

The canker worm.
The cheap guy isn't always the CHEAP guy. Be sure your tree worker is qualified and insured. Woody plant pruning (for hire) in Manitoba may only be performed by a LICENCED arborist (by law). Manitoba pruners licenses are awarded to those who can pass an exam and provide proof of insurance. Arbour Barbers Tree Care hold valid Manitoba Pruners licenses as well as certification with the International Society of Arboriculture. Manitoba Coservation can confirm whether an individ...ual or company is licensed to prune trees by calling their office. This has been a public service announcement
Not my saw not my problem
Happy Arbour Day people. Plant a tree! "Arbor Day is a holiday in which individuals and groups are encouraged to plant trees. Today, many countries observe such a holiday. Though usually observed in the spring, the date varies, depending on climate and suitable planting season." -Wikipedia https://www.arborday.org/
Mulching is good, volcanoing your mulch around trees is bad...mmmmmkay? https://www.yourgreenpal.com//dont-kill-your-trees-make-su
To become an arborist you must pull an old rusty chainsaw out of a tree that has swallowed it and grown around it for 25 years.
Don't take it from me; take it from Arny!
Gah some of the power line clearance pruning this winter stabs my eyes every time i drive by!!! Those power lines look good tho Edit: I get that it has to be done and it's production pruning but it is hard on the eyes. Good reason to a) not plant trees under lines or other overhead obstacles and b) prune preemptively so wounds are small and shape the trees growth.
Sorry in advance for bad spelling etc.
"So you guys got a cherry-picker?"
One of the biggest health and safety tree issues we see daily is a direct result of improper pruning that causes die back, rot, cavitation and instability. For small limb pruning identify where the branch collar is and use the 3-cut method.
We are all part of the same family tree. All of our relations
Some Monday inspiration
Let us wow you with our wizardly words and fancy phrases Don't worry - we'll break it down for you got a tree question?
Plant a tree today as a gift to tomorrow.
Got a tree that you want to fell yourself but some little nagging voice keeps making you wonder if you should call a professional? Listen to that little nagging voice
Squirrels may be an annoyance but did you know that they are responsible for distributing and planting much of the trees that grow in our urban and wild lands? Real movers and shakers and very enviable climbers! Keep branches pruned away from roof tops to keep these guys out of your roofs and use squirrel proof feeders to save your seed for the birds!
Keep foreign objects out of trees. Clothes lines, nails, screws etc. can not only girdle or poison a tree but they can really agitate your future arborist.
Trees sequester carbon from the air but they need other nutrients to grow and be gorgeous and healthy. In nature decomposing organic matter provides this but in urban settings the ground is usually kept clean of leaf litter and other nutrient releasing goodies. Fertilizer spikes for trees is a good way of compensating what they're missing. This is especially important after pruning, root damage, drought or other disturbances. Some trees prefer to be fed in the spring. Do your trees look hungry?
Got an old stump in the yard scaring the kids? Arbour Barber's can grind that out, recommend and replant something nice so your yard can be a blessing to the neighbours, the birds, the bees, and you!
Be sure to inspect your trees before buds break to ensure limb junctions are not "including bark" and subject to cracking. When bark is included in the junction wood cannot form properly and the branch may split from the tree. Ash are particulary bad for this.
How is your score on 1) brand logo recognition vs 2) tree identification?
a hat trick and 5 nothing go go!
