hello all - as i was chatting about on my instagram story today, here is the link to interior health's restrictions on labour and delivery right now! definitely give it a read if you are preparing for a hospital birth in the area. doulas are still being welcomed on care teams, as the importance of informed and continuous support as you navigate a difficult time is recognized. please reach out with any questions or to chat about having a doula with you during your labour/birth in the rest of 2020 and into 2021.

when you desire a natural/vaginal/unmedicated birth - what steps do you take to make it happen? i've heard so many times "i had intended to have a natural birth, but it ended in (induction/epidural/cesarean)" - so what does INTENTION actually look like? what steps are you taking to make your desired outcome more likely? are you: -choosing or creating an environment where you feel safe, supported, relaxed? -asking your care provider how they will support you and work with ...you? -researching medical interventions and the benefits/risks of each? -informing your partner and family of your plan? -creating a clear birth plan outlining your preferences in each scenario? -working with a doula? -educating yourself so you understand what is happening in your body? -practicing breathing, labour positions, and comfort measures you will utilize? -moving your body and keeping it nourished and hydrated to be ready? -practicing setting boundaries and staying confident in your decisions? yes, sometimes medical interventions are necessary, helpful, desired. and we prepare to be at peace with that too! but hopes and wishes aren't the same as intention, and intention INCLUDES planning, knowledge, support, and preparedness. : @theartofbirth See more
