November 1 - 7 is CANADIAN DOWN SYNDROME WEEK! This is a week "to show the world that Canada is where ALL people are valued, fully participating citizens. It is... our week to celebrate people with Down syndrome and teach others to See the Ability." Special Olympics Sarnia knows there are no limits as to what our athletes are capable of!

Just amazing!! Of course we are just puddles, tears of joy and hope! It really happened today, for the first time in Canada, we are taking steps towards ...legislating the way families receive their prenatal diagnosis. We stand for inclusion, fairness, consistency and information. I will stand forever with all the families that had a traumatic prenatal journey and can't say enough thank you's for showing your bravery and sharing your stories with us over the past couple of years!!! We are all fierce advocates working together for positive change! Today we shine light on hope that future families will receive balanced, up to date, consistent information from a trusted source about what the diagnosis of Down Syndrome means no matter their geography! It is Canadian Down syndrome week. We have lots to celebrate. Sydney is loving her life. She has friends and she has had some pretty awesome life experiences. D...ancing with Prince Charming at Disney was a highlight. Let us celebrate the uniqueness of who Sydney is as well as each person with Down syndrome. This year I have a special request. For the next 365 days, I am asking that you help me eliminate the word ‘retard’. If you hear someone use it to another person, please ask him or her to stop. Many years ago, individuals with Down syndrome were called ‘retarded’. What an awful word! This word has entered every day conversations. It is STILL an awful word.
