This year I am trying something different. In addition to my regular sales venue at Artique, Powell River's Collective Art Gallery, I will be a participant at the Christmas popup store, The Soapy Dragon, located at the Town Centre Mall. I am currently beavering away in the studio, getting new pots ready for the Nov 24th opening ... hope to see you there!

It's been a long time coming - 6 months from start to finish - but finally the Red Pot collection is finished and on display at the gallery. I only use the dark red clay (M390) once a year or every couple of years. The red deepens the glazes I use on white clay plus I have a couple of glazes I only use on red clay (the rusty coloured ones). I hope you have time to pop by the newly re-opened Artique Gallery to take a look. If you are out of town and see something here you like, PM me and we can chat ...

I'm in the studio today, starting the glazing process for the pots I've made during the gallery has been closed ... red pots this time around ... including garden lanterns and teapots ... hope to see you soon!

Such is the lot of a potter ... work for weeks on your pots, throwing, trimming and adding details. Then comes the bisque firing followed by the glazing stage ... where you work somewhat blindly. Glazing is not a case of WYSIWYG - it's more like What You See Is NOT What You Get. After applying the glazes (which all look very similar in their raw stage) you throw the entire works to the kiln gods and hope you are blessed ... I opened the kiln yesterday to find I was somewhat ...blessed and somewhat cursed with several of my pots having glaze defects sufficient enough to keep them off the gallery shelf. Those will be 'mine' ... the rest will be at Artique, Powell River's Collective Art Gallery in time for our annual "Winter Salon",on Thurs, Nov 28th, beginning at 7 PM ... If you are local, I'd love to see you there. I will be in attendance, along with all the rest of the gallery artists. We can talk about pots ... and the joy and fun of making them ...
