Down To Earth Growing 29.12.2020

i posted a few days ago in my story, allowing you to ask questions, so im here to answer some of the more common ones! do you have questions? Leave them below and we will be happy to answer them all!! FAQS:... I keep seeing you refer to them as nutrient dense, what does that mean? microgreens are full of what are called micro-nutrients. In literaly terms it means they are dense with nutrients, but the easiest way to explain is with examples! 1OZ of our Mellow Mix (broccoli, kale and cabbage) has an equivalent nutrient value to 1.5LBS of full size Broccoli Fruit. They are both very high in sulforaphane, which is excellent in brain development. Red Cabbage microgreens are high in Vitamin c, Cilantro high in Vitamin A, Garnet Amaranth is high in Vitamin K, and Radish are high in Vitamin E. Who needs to take a multivitamin? It seems expensive for such a small amount, why is that? For starters, they are not mass produced. You wont find them in grocery stores, only farmers markets and specialty stores. Often they are grown at home (as is the case with us!) and bulk buying power isnt available. They used to only be available to high end restauronts and caterers, but now are packaged for home life. Plus, ounce for ounce they are a more affordable way to get your vitamins and minerals. You get a more personal touch, including free delivery in town when purchasing from a small grower. I heard sprouts arent safe for pregnant or breastfeeding moms, does this apply to miccrogreens too? No! Microgreens are totally safe for pregnant or breastfeeding moms! Microgreens are not sprouts, and you only eat the leaves and stem of the plant. With sprouts you eat the seed and root which is where the potential for harmful bacteria growth lies. What is the difference between microgreens and sprouts? As mentioned above the biggest difference is sprouts you often eat the seed and root as well as the leaves and stem. Sprouts are grown hydroponically, whereas microgreens usually have a soil medium. Microgreens are usually grown longer, until the first set of true leaves appear. Sprouts are harvested early, when they only have their seed leaves. Microgreens are also exposed to light, causing the leaves to turn green. Sprouts are kept in the dark, giving them a yellow color.
