The spindle box represents the introduction to more concrete and abstract areas such as addition and subtraction, so it gives the child the opportunity to understand how numerals work. It encourages the child to associate different numbers with specific quantities in real life by completing the task of introducing the right quantity of spindles into the correct compartment.
Pin Punching Montessori activity is designed to help children to develop their fine motor skills, which involves the coordination of the body’s small muscles and refinement of their hand control. The development of fine motor skills helps children to learn such things as how to write and important life skills, such as how to dress and feed themselves.
The Color Tablets are an introduction to the world of color. A child gets the chance to match 2 tablets of the same color to each other, building their visual discrimination skills while exploring how colors relate to one another. The color tablets introduce color without the association of a physical object. Take, for example, a red apple. If red is always associated with an apple, what might a child think when they see a green apple? Is it an apple if it’s not red? For this reason, in the Montessori classroom, colors are presented in a concrete fashion. The only thing that is different is the color itself. We call this, isolating one difficulty at a time.
Learning shapes and colors teaches infants to think about attributes of objects and make observations about similarities and differences. This is a form of early math, and also helps to develop the logical thinking theyll need for problem solving, science class and eventually in their everyday work routine.
Watching seeds grow is an amazing science lesson for kids. Our seed germination experiment gives kids the opportunity to see up close how a seed grows what would actually be happening under the ground! Our awesome seed growing activity is turning out amazingly well, and we love checking on the progress each day! Simple science activities are great for young learners!
Science is all about making observations and figuring out how things work. Simple, hands-on experiments that begin with, What do you think will happen? or end with, Can you make it happen differently? get childrens minds in the right place. Experiment to show water and oil not mixed with each other and water is denser than oil using food colours and cooking oil.

For sensory learning, make lemonade! Dont forget to taste the lemons, as well as the sugary sweet lemonade! Having kids squeeze their own lemons for this activity makes it even more meaningful and builds hand strength kids need for writing.
NESTING DOLLS: MATRYOSHKA DOLLS For young children, picking items up and putting them in place helps them learn the important skill of intentional grasp and release, as well as how to control and position their fingers. Since infants don't have the dexterity or fine motor control yet, they use their entire hands to explore, hold, release, and place objects.

The knobbed cylinders are part of the original set of Montessori materials. With an excellent hands-on introduction to size, the knobbed cylinders give young Montessori students indirect preparation for mathematics while learning about dimensions and developing fine motor skills.
