Vegan meatballs These are healthy, whole foods plant-based and are yummy It makes about 25 balls and I thought they would last us the week, but they were gone the next day ... Pan fry the following until the eggplant and mushrooms have shrunk: 1 onion 2 small eggplant 2 small containers of mushrooms Add the above to a bowl with the following: 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts 1/2 tbsp of basil 1/2 tbsp of garlic powder Pinch of nutmeg 1.5 cups of mixed green lentils and quinoa (1/3 cup of dry for each) 1.5 cups of oat flour (blend oats into a flour) 1/2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar 1 tsp of Vegetable Better Than Bouillon (or you can cook your quinoa and lentils in vegetable broth) Mix well and form into balls Pan fry on medium for about 15-20 min, rotating to cook all sides evenly I made a quick marinara sauce - peeled tomatoes, basil, oregano, garlic, salt and pepper. Simmered the cooked meatballs in the sauce while the spaghetti squash baked in the oven . . . #naturopathicmedicine #naturopathicdoctor #naturopathy #healthylifestyle #healthyfood #healthyeating #eatyourveggies #eatclean #foodismedicine #foodisfuel #vegan #veganfood #veganrecipes #wholefoodplantbased #plantbased #wfpb

Sometimes we complicate things Basic lifestyle choices often heal 75% of the problem. Then I like to add things like botanicals, specific vitamins and minerals, and nutraceuticals that will take care of the last 25% In school they called these Obstacles to Cure - as in, your body wont be able to heal with these in the way ... Your body knows how to heal itself - just look at your scars By removing what’s preventing it from healing we allow the body space to do its thing, and sometimes an extra plant or vitamin will give the body the best fighting chance at success . . . #naturopathicmedicine #naturopathy #naturopathicdoctor #healthylifestyle #healthyfood #heal #healthyeating #healthyliving #lifestyle #thebodyhealsitself #rootcause #functionalmedicine #dietandexercise #foodismedicine #foodisfuel #water #hydrate #movementismedicine #moveyourbody #trailrunning #plantbased #vegan #wfpb #ibd #crohnsandcolitis #hormonebalance #hormonalacne #hormones #hormonehealth

Cantaloupe is juicy, delicious and gut healing! It’s always included in the protocol for my patients dealing with digestive issues It’s water-rich, but has a lower amount of fibre so its very gentle on the gut and can be included in those experiencing an acute flare up of IBD ... Cantaloupe is also very high in Vitamin A - and we know IBD patients are typically deficient in this vitamin due to protein loss from chronic diarrhea as well as decreased absorption due to the tissue damage Vitamin A: Keeps oxidative stress in check > reducing inflammation Tissue healing Increases tight junction protein (no more leaky gut) Improves intestinal barrier integrity I rarely prescribe Vitamin A on its own, but its often included in the high quality multivitamin but more importantly, I encourage lots of foods high in Vitamin A: cantaloupe, sweet potato, squash and carrots If you’re a patient of mine you know how much I advocate for these foods to be included daily, and now you know why Head, K., Jurenka, J. 2003. I know it can be scary to get checked when it comes to your health What you don’t know is not as scary as the potential diagnoses you may get so you put it off for years Well during those years something that was potentially a small easy fix can become a much more challenging disease state ... Whether it comes to bloodwork, mammograms, hormone panels, colonoscopies or PAP smears - getting the results can be scary (and let’s be honest the waiting is the worst part) However, it’s important to know what enemies we are fighting when it comes to your health At the bare minimum it provides us a baseline to track progress and can be a source of motivation for many . . . #naturopathicmedicine #naturopathicdoctor #naturopathy #functionalmedicine #testing #healthylifestyle #healthyfood #healthyliving #health #heal #guthealth #ibd #crohnsandcolitis #hormones #hormonalacne #hormonehealth #hormoneimbalance #balance #macro #nutrition #foodismedicine #getchecked

Once we get those worries, jitters, and preoccupations on the page, we face our day with clearer eyes. - Julia Cameron If your brain feels foggy in the morning and you are finding it hard to concentrate, it’s no wonder Research has shown that the average person consumes 34 gigabytes of content and 100,000 words of information in one, single day ... With all this material rattling around in our we can drown in the grey noise moving robotically through our daily habits all the while knowing that we are not being our best self Julia Cameron introduced morning pages in her book, The Artist’s Way Her goal was to help people clear their minds at the start of each day as a means of increasing their creativity, but its not just for artists Morning pages are three pages of stream-of-consciousness writing, ideally done first thing in the morning. You essentially sit down with a journal and just write whatever comes in your mind. It can be a to do list for the day, grumpy morning words, memories of yesterday’s events, or anything else There is no wrong way to do Morning Pages. They are just about anything and everything that crosses you mind and they are for your eyes only. It’s like writing down the random thoughts that come up during meditation. By writing your thoughts down you are acknowledging their presence and giving them time to exit your mind Sometimes you can even be in the middle of writing your thought when another comes along. There’s no need to finish your initial thought; just go with the flow and write your new one. You don’t have to worry about grammar and spelling just write! There are only two rules to Morning Pages: They must be written by hand because writing allows you to have time to process your thoughts better; typing is too speedy. Write no more and no less than three pages - the 3-page rule allows you to go beyond the forefront of the mind. Some of the benefits you may experience include: Clearer mind Calmness Less procrastination Less anxiety Improved focus & concentration #naturopathy #journaling #morning #morningpages #healthylifestyle #healthyhabits #mentalhealth #morningroutine #heal
