This statement by the provincial government is misleading, and all part of their positioning. Here is what they stated about eye care in Ontario, and it sounds... as though they have increased exam fees by 15 percent. Untrue. There have been 15 percent more OHIP billings across all of optometry in Ontario because we are all doing more OHIP covered exams due to the increase in seniors, and in diabetes, etc. Each exam still pays less than 50 percent of the costs of the chair time, so more OHIP exams means dire straits for our offices, unfortunately.
