It’s Friday and we have some exciting news! It’s been one month since we reopened our doors from the covid closure. We understand this last month has been a ch...allenge and we want to say THANK YOU to all our patients for following clinic protocol and wearing a mask while in the clinic. The cost and discomfort of our added way of doing business has a pay off. Your donations in the last month have added up to 1000$ and we are so excited to support Not for profit organizations in our community. With your help we will be giving a cheque to both the Olive Tree and Big Brothers and Big Sisters to help in their efforts of supporting those who need an extra hand. Thank you to Kerry Taylor for diligently sewing away each day to keep up with our demand. Have a great weekend! See more

How many of us jam our feet into too tight, pretty but painful or rigid footwear? How many of us have the blessing of ugly and sore feet genetically gifted fr...om our loved ones. All of these things have been linked to an increased risk of developing bunions. A bulging bump on the outside of the base of your big toe that is swollen, red and tender around your big toe joint is so common when patients report foot pain and reveal their foot for assessment. Corns or calluses that develop where the first and second toes rub against each other and restricted motion of the big toe is often discovered. What can you do if this is a problem you can relate to? Choose shoes that have a wide toe box to provide room for the toes and proper arch support is important for prevention. Custom made orthotics can also provide a lot of relief. Bunion shields or pads can reduce pressure on the bunion caused by closed shoes. A bunion splint and toe separators can be helpful if the condition is still in its early stage of structural change. Splints help to place the toe in a corrected position. Dr. McKinnon is going to show us a simple trick with taping to help support the big toe today. All of our Chiropractors are back in the office treating this week. Call the office or book online at your convenience.

The quadriceps muscle is located on the front of your thigh and is made up of four parts, hence the name quad. When you extend your leg fully, you can feel and... sometimes see this muscle contract. Today, Dr. McKinnon is going to talk about the importance of activating the quad muscle to help with stabilization of the knee. The vastus medialis muscle is a part of the quadriceps muscle group. It is the most medial, or inner part of your quad and extends the entire length from hip to knee. The portion of the muscle that is just above the knee is sometimes referred to as the vastus medialis obliquus, or VMO. This muscle is used to extend the leg at the knee and to stabilize the patella. If you have knee pain, weakness of your vastus medialis or other components of the quad muscle could be the problem. Activation of this group can be quite simple and easy to do with the use of a rolled up towel. Sitting on the floor, contract the muscle by pressing your knee gently into the towel and in doing so your heel will slightly let up pressure on the floor. Exercise number two, leg extensions, is done standing with use of resistance banding as described by Dr. McKinnon. We hope you have a great Saturday!
