It was my honour to be a Keynote Speaker at Dentistry Virtual 2020. My presentation was "Zirconia Anterior Crowns. A Guide to Succesful Placement" All the clinical examples were taken from cases I have treated in our Niagara office. We were one of the first to use this advanced procedure in Canada and have years of experience and success with it, with hundreds of cases treated. These cases have provided the clinical material for a scientific study that will be published soon in a major dental journal, documenting the high success rate of this treatment

Tiny teeth are important too! The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends using a "smear" of toothpaste on children once the first tooth appears. In this video, Dr. Lanre Falusi shares more tips on helping your child have a heathy smile.
Furniture tip-overs can cause devastating injuries - or death - when young children become trapped beneath them. American Academy of Pediatrics provides ways to anchor furniture, plus other tips like adding stoppers to dresser drawers.
Drowning is the leading cause of injury death in children 1-4. #DrowningPrevention should happen in the home, not just at the pool and beach! Children can drown in as little as 1 inch of water, and any standing water can be dangerous. Learn more on how to keep your home safe here:
E-cigarettes are the most widely used tobacco product among teens, who can easily become addicted to nicotine because their brains are still developing. Many e-...cigarettes come in appealing flavors that lure children in, which is why the American Academy of Pediatrics continues to call for a ban of all flavored e-cigarettes, including menthol. In this PSA, Dr. Shelly Flais discusses the different types of e-cigarettes and why parents should be concerned. See more

This new policy of the American Academy of a Pediatric Dentistry is consistent with our office protocol and that of other major medical organizations caring for children. Please look at all options before accepting a surgical choice
Initial studies in 2009 suggested there could be neurological effects from general anaesthesia in young children. The most recent study dispels this concern. In... our office we carefully review the risks and benefits of dental treatment under general anaesthesia. When there is significant benefit and no reasonable alternative it is a safe and effective modality. Alternatives may include the use of silver diamine fluoride or fluoride gels to arrest decay or placement of glass ionomer materials in cavities to do the same. Along with reducing sugars between meals and using fluoride toothpaste and supplements this can delay or diminish the need for comprehensive restorative care in select patients thus reducing the need for general anaesthesia to deliver this care See more
Fight the anti-vaxxers. Although less dangerous, I feel the same about the anti-fluoridationists.
Something to think about
Hope this changes minds
Stay away from anything sweet. That is an agreed upon fact
Teens have the right to refuse dental treatment even if the parent wants it done. As long as the teen understand the risks and benefits, we must respect their wishes. I have had 12 year old children refuse treatment under general anaesthesia after being admitted to the hospital for treatment. As long as there is no life threatening risk and the child is considered competent, we must abide by their wishes.
I am deeply troubled by this trend. Although there are times when this procedure is justified I believe it is being overdone. Lactation consultants are hired by... dentists. They and the dentist benefit from a decision to do a frenectomy so there is some conflict of interest. I have a laser and do perform this procedure but with a more restrictive basis for proceeding See more
Over 30 years later as a pediatric dentist here and still no fluoride in Niagara. Still high caries rates in children. Benefits for childrens dental care getting worse. Will anyone in the provincial and municipal government, who own this problem, ever own the problem and make it better
Psychological influences are also critical to understanding why one in four adults in Canada are now obese. We spoke to psychiatrist Valerie Taylor, the chief of psychiatry at the University of Calgary, to gain insight into what drives humans to eat. #obesity #weekendreads

The controversy never ends. The funds available to provide preventive and restorative services to those unable to afford it continue to disappear. Without water... fluoridation, a public health care preventive measure, how is access to preventive dental treatments available to those without access to private dental services See more
