Have you ever bent over to put on your socks and all of a sudden...!! Your back is and you’re totally out of commission? I promise that it’s not just the socks that brought you down. Proper spinal movement is essential for optimal health and function. When your spinal joints are not moving as they should, your body will start to compensate. In the short term, this might not seem like a big deal. However, over time, these compensations can lead to spinal imbalances that lea...ve you less resilient to every day stressors. Seemingly all of a sudden, it becomes painful to sit and move in ways that shouldn’t normally hurt. Chiropractic is all about optimal spinal movement. It is definitely helpful in moments of pain, but even more beneficial when used proactively... before the socks get you down .

How is adjusting an infant like making guacamole? Pediatric adjustments involve gentle, sustained pressure on targeted areas of an infant’s spine. In fact, a paediatric chiropractor uses less force to adjust an infant than you would use to check the ripeness of an avocado. Cool, right? How old were you when you first started getting adjusted? Comment below

If you listen to your body when it whispers, you won’t have to hear it scream. Shout out to all of you who are being proactive with your health and function (& shout out to my lovely hand model, @mjrossetti31 ). P.S. Who doesn’t love a good wrist adjustment?

Happy 125th birthday, Chiropractic! On this day in 1895, Chiropractic was born as Dr. Daniel David Palmer gave the first chiropractic adjustment. I get to experience this amazing profession as both a practitioner and a patient and I couldn’t be more grateful for all that it has to offer.... Who celebrated with an adjustment this week?

My favourite green juice (without a juicer or the $12 price tag ) Roughly chop 1/2 cucumber, 2 stalks of celery, 1 large handful of spinach, 2 green apples (cored) and a small chunk of ginger (peeled). Add to a high powered blender with 2 cups of coconut water. Blend for 1 minute on high. Strain the contents of the blender into a small pitcher using a mesh strainer. Full disclosure: this is easiest if done in small batches so it will take a few minutes. Dont be like me... be patient, or you will make a mess . This will make about 4 small glasses or green juice (or 2 large glasses). Pour over ice cubes and enjoy all of the antioxidant, anti inflammatory goodness!

Raise your hand if you have been personally victimized by your home workstation (Im talking neck pain, back pain, shoulder pain...) . While your office chair probably curves to properly support your spine, your dining room chair likely does not. Enter your DIY lumbar support: roll up a medium-sized bath towel into a tight log. Place your new lumbar support behind you at the level of the natural arch in your low back. . You can see how this instantly lines up your spine in a more ergonomic position, with the shoulders stacked over the hips. This position will reduce posture-related aches and pains. Try it out and let me know how it goes!

The best paleo pancakes In a bowl, mix together your dry ingredients: 1/2 cup almond flour, 1/3 cup arrowroot starch flour, 1/4 cup coconut flour, 1/2 tsp baking soda, 1/4 tsp salt. In a separate bowl, mix together your wet ingredients: 4 large eggs, 1/4 cup almond milk, 1 tbsp honey, or maple syrup, 1 tsp apple cider vinegar, 1 tsp vanilla extract.... Little spines Did you know that @urbanhealthgroup we also provide chiropractic care for children? Its true! Regular chiropractic checkups can identify areas of spinal tension that may be causing discomfort and/or limiting proper movement in those little spines.... During a time of growth spurts, trampolines and tricycles, chiropractic is a gentle and effective way to keep your kids feeling, and functioning at their very best. #chirokids

Meditation As a newbie meditator, I appreciate a guided meditation that can get me out of my (which can be a very weird place these days ). Today, I found an awesome, guided meditation by @koyawebb on @insighttimer called Visualize your happy place. I thought that I would share in case anyone else could use 11 minutes out of their head. Let me know if you try it! P.S. This is one of my happy places - on top of a cliff overlooking the Indian Ocean, watching the sunset with @mjrossetti31

DIY heating pads - a little piece of heaven for those stiff necks and tight upper traps (because Im willing to bet that Im not alone in that department... whos with me ?). All you need is 1) a long sock 2) enough rice to fill your long sock 3) 10 drops of your favourite essential oil (optional but encouraged) 4) a hair elastic. Instructions: Mix rice with your essential oil (I used lavender) and pour mixture into sock. Secure tightly with a hair elastic. Microwave for 2-3 minutes and youre done! Test out the heat using your hand before placing it on your neck (safety first).

Happy April 1st, everyone! Im celebrating the beginning of April (and lets be real... the long-overdue end of March) with a bulletproof coffee date this morning. To make your own, add one cup of coffee to a heat-friendly blender and then add some almond milk (or another milk of your choice), 1 tbsp of MCT oil and 1 tbsp of collagen. Top with some cinnamon and enjoy by a sunny window (optional... but highly recommended). The healthy fats are a great source of energy and wi...ll keep you fuller, longer, help to stabilize your blood sugar and support your brain health and function. Collagen is the building block for all of your connective tissues (think bones, joints, tendons, skin and gut). Its also a great source of protein. Most importantly, this coffee is frothy and delicious and you wont even taste the extra goodies! Enjoy

Acupuncture works like magic... but what do the needles actually do? Acupuncture decreases pain by releasing the bodys natural analgesics (its like popping an all-natural Advil ) Acupuncture reduces inflammation and promotes healing by lowering inflammatory markers in the body and promoting blood flow and oxygen to target tissue Acupuncture reduces muscle pain and alleviates trigger points through the bodys own neurological mechanisms Acupuncture reduces stress and promotes a zen state by tapping into your parasympathetic nervous system which is responsible for sleep, recovery and healing All of these effects can be amplified with the use of electrical stimulation (swipe to photo 2) Have you tried acupuncture?? @ Urban Health Group

Hi and welcome to my page! Here are 5 fun facts about me: 1 I am a family Chiropractor in Midtown Toronto. I love to treat little spines , senior spines and all of the in-between spines . 2 I have been getting adjusted since childhood. Chiropractic helped to keep me healthy through competitive gymnastics and alleviated my migraine headaches . Now Im a patient for life . 3 I completed the McMaster Medical Acupuncture ...program and I love to incorporate acupuncture points into my treatment plans to help patients feel better and heal faster . 4 In addition to my clinic hours, I teach part-time, helping future registered massage therapists master their special orthopaedic testing . #learningiscool 5 Despite not having a pet of my own (yet), I am a crazy dog lady and I love when you bring your pups to @urbanhealthgroup for your adjustments . How Chiropractic is doing its part to reduce the Opioid Crisis (Cool research alert ): A meta-analysis out of the Yale School of Medicine found that individuals who visited a Chiropractor for a musculoskeletal pain condition were 49% LESS LIKELY to receive an OPIOD PRESCRIPTION than their counterparts who visited other healthcare professionals. This is incredibly important given the current state of opioid misuse and addiction (The Opioid crisis) in North America,... affecting both social and economic welfare. Chiropractic is natural, hands-on health care that works with your body. To learn more about how chiropractic care works, visit the website in my bio Fran Lowry.
