So we're at the end of our first week back. I did 4.5 days this week and we had 74 patients booked where we could normally see 200 over the same time. There were 5 no-shows, resulting in 2h 15m lost time where we could have seen another 4-12 patients, depending. Sorta frustrating. We'll see how this goes, to help us decide what we can offer and what needs to happen to meet your needs, but the dead time doesn't help anybody.
We're already running into a small problem here. We have *everybody* wanting to come in at the same time, while we're trying to see all of our emergencies and fixes first. The rules we have for treating patients during this pandemic are very restrictive - eg, we need 15mins between appointments to allow any droplets to settle, so it becomes a disaster if someone is late for their appointment. We also NEED TO KNOW if anything is broken. This is the bigger problem. No lo...nger can we fix anything that's not announced, since we have to track our instrument use, need to budget appropriate PPE (which is still scarce) and make sure we have the proper time in the schedule, which is in high demand. These rules are not ones we made up and we want to make sure people are safe. We book specific things to do at each appointment, some of which have special PPE requirements. If we don't know something is broken, that PPE is wasted, as is the time. Booking a second appointment to fix things, in the high-demand time, should demand a fee. I don't like it at all, but all we're asking is to be left a message on our answering machine. We'll call you to make sure it can be taken care of, but we won't be able to fix it on the spot anymore.

Gotta love this! Call it a day, I'm going out on top!
You know what I'm sayin'.
We have finally received PPE yesterday. Only 1-2 days worth, ordered late March - early April I think. We'll be able to open when we get more - looks like June 22. We're going to see emergencies / breakages first, booked in the order they appear on the answering machine 705-527-5570, we need to know about it before you arrive.

Hi Everyone. Happy Summer! It's Dr. C here. I have a summer job opportunity for any students out there who know how to write computer code. I've written some software that I need translated into Python. If you know of someone, please have them contact the office, but only if they're familiar with Python. Much appreciated, thanks.
I spent today at the University of Manitoba School of Dentristy, looking into how to get SteriSimple here. My little software company gets to sit at the grown-ups table now! This is a very exciting step, and if you'd ask me how I feel about it, I'd say "all the above." It's a lot of work, but wow, how cool.
There's a lot of negative media coverage still going on about sterilization in dental offices. There was a recent closure of a Kingston office, which is disappointing. We want everyone to know that here, you're very safe. We use a system (#steriSimple) that records and tracks the entire sterilization and usage process. It's computerized and bulletproof. Some of you may have seen us scanning items before they're used - there's a label on each item that has some steriliza...tion details, then it goes into a database that can retrieve all of the details. We can tell you everything about every instrument that you've ever been treated with: when it was sterilized, which sterilizer, the temperature and pressure, how many items were in the sterilizer with it, when it was used, whom it was used with, etc. Ask us to see how it works, the next time you're in. Nothing gets past the goalie!

Happy National Dentist Day! Here are some interesting facts about dentists: 1. If you have a group of 5 dentists, 4 of them will not always agree on the same thing all the time.... 2. Being recognized by the Canadian Dental Association does not mean that when whey walk into a 7-11 they say "Oooo! Trident! I recognize that stuff!" 3. Dentists don't obsess about teeth. We don't t think about them all the time. We might find them interesting, but that's it. We care more about the person attached to the teeth. They're way more interesting. So come in and get a warm hug from Dr. Corsini, or at least a hearty High-5 and join us to celebrate the awesomeness that is your dentist!

It is CRAZY out there today. So much snow and we're supposed to get more. I'm not sure if we're all going to be here today. It's safer not to travel today. If you would like to reschedule your appointment today, don't sweat it, just give us a call. Be safe and stay warm.

HI, it's Dr. C here. I have some news I'm pretty happy about. Many of you don't know this, but the Ontario Gov't has come down hard on dentistry since 2017 - the result is that we have to use a lot more supplies to sterilize, which has produced a LOT more garbage, usually 2-3 more bags, which normally goes right to landfill. You can thank them for that. That wasn't good enough for us. Some of you may recall that we've started using a service called TerraCycle to recycle s...ome of the plastics that are normally not recyclable. We've managed to cut out one bag of garbage per week with this Ontario-made system. The other big thing is the blue paper which we wrap our cassettes in. I've thought about this for a while and have found a product that is completely recyclable and biodegradable. Even better, it's from a Canadian company and is made right here in Ontario. Our goal is to get down to one bag per week. With these products, we're well on our way!
