Acs #3 Its well known among the "equivalency Process" students and it's been confirmed with statisitcs and numbers that one of the most "chalenging" projects in the ACS is the Class IV composite restoration project. That obviously was based on its high failure percentage during the last few years. BUT, you might be surprised that I personally think that it isnt the hardest and with a good appraoch, every candidate can easily pass it with an A! First, the best fact about thi...s project is that usually nobody gets a straight E in it, three D is usually the cause of failure. Now, lets break this down. 1- SURFACE. This column you should absulotely get an A in it. How? Surface should be flawless no scratches no catches no voids no roughness no contamination NOTHING! Again, how is that even possible? - Choosing a good rebutable composite brand is a MUST, that can reduce the number of possible problems and will help you in your condensing and manipulation, I suggest using ESTELITE from Tokuyama. - Condensing your composite very well can help you in reducing or eliminating any possible voids. - If you choose to use Free-hand technique, leaving an extra layer of composite on the surface can help in a way if you needed to finish and polish the surace heavily as you wont need to add more composite. - Cleaning your instruments very well with ALCOHOL can reduce any possibilty of causing any contiminations on the surface. - After curing, conturing, finishing and polishing, ALWAYS dry your restoration very well before checking!!! ALWAYS DO THAT as water and depris can give you illusions and cover flaws. - Last and most importantly, is to check the hidden areas with loupes, naked eyes and mirror with different angles and level of illuminations, for example the incisal edge area and the area proximally from the lingual side, they can mark you for that if its not in the contact area!! Be careful. I hope this post was beneficial to you guys and let me know if you want the other two columns covered in the future posts :)
