RIB PAIN During your pregnancy your body produces high levels of the hormone relaxin. This makes your ligaments stretchy, flexible, and pliable, and this very important to help allow your body to expand with the growth of your baby and get ready for the stretching required for giving birth in your pelvis. However, unfortunately there is increased laxity in ALL your ligaments, including those between each rib, and between your spine and breast bones.... The ribs can easily be pushed into extreme and uncomfortable postures as the ligaments and tissues surrounding them stretch out and become painful. Once you enter your third trimester, and as your baby becomes ever larger, the uterus expands right up beneath your rib cage. The lowest few ribs expand and flare out in response to your growing baby, putting them into a position they have never been before, bringing your soft tissues with them. After all this, no wonder why you may be experiencing rib pain! 226.506.2681 [email protected] www.stibbardchiropractic.com 519.322.4859 [email protected] www.buzekchiropractic.ca

Mama, you deserve a strong, capable, pain-free body. I know how hard it can be to prioritize yourself when you have little ones but it’s so important. Getting checked and developing a proper rehabilitation program for your pelvic floor & core post-... birth is more than just #selfcare it should be the standard we set for ourselves. A study published in The British Journal of Sports Medicine found that 32% of women still have a diastasis at 12 months postpartum. It really won’t go away on it’s own. I’ve found substantial gaps in the abdomen of women 10, 20+ years post partum. The complications of diastasis recti include incontinence, back and/or pelvic pain, organ prolapse, and can cause a sequelae of events leading to hernia or disc herniation. The goods news is that the body responds so well to the proper dose & blend of manual therapy and exercise rehabilitation. It’s not super labour intensive either most of my patients are healing their diastasis and improving/resolving their pain + dysfunction with work that takes just a few minutes a day. It’s just important that you’re consistent and doing the exercises properly... as well as modifying things that can make it worse. TAG a new mom, or a woman that complains of some of the common symptoms that arise from an unchecked diastasis. The conversation and subsequent treatment surrounding this topic is helping so many women!

VITAMIN D According to a new small study, more than 80% of hospitalized COVID-19 patients at a hospital in Spain had a vitamin D deficiency. They also noted that vitamin D levels were especially lower in men compared to women with COVID-19. Vitamin D is a hormone produced by the kidneys, which controls blood calcium concentration and affects the function of the immune system.... Vitamin D deficiency has also been linked to health concerns including heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and multiple sclerosis. Although it is still unclear to make claims about vitamin D and COVID-19 outcomes, it may be beneficial to increase your vitamin D intake in Canada, especially during the colder months. *Please consult a health care professional in the field before increasing your vitamin D intake and make sure you are taking the required amount for your body.
