SO NOW WHAT? Everything is cancelled and we are stuck at home. Some quarantined for 14 days, others forced to work from home or stay at home due to work closures or health reasons. What will we do? 14 days of Netflix and Doritos in close corridors with living members seems like a long haul and already has people complaining about being cooped up. ... CONSIDER THIS: the one gift #covid_19 #isolation has given many of us for the undetermined future is TIME. Time we always say we don’t have enough of. The excuse that we are just TOO BUSY to move our bodys daily, to prepare healthy meals, reconnect with loved ones, clean our homes, complete projects that have been in the corner for months, practice selfcare, reflect/set personal goals, spend time learning new things, enjoy hobbies, have meaningful conversations, introspective time with oneself, time for rest, pampering, a reset. Are you guilty of complaining about lack of time? Self isolation/distancing has given us the gift of time. Time for personal growth, connection and restoration. Yes this is a scary time. There is a lot of fear based media, bad online banter, misinformation and scarcity consumerism. With Canadian life now on lockdown we have the opportunity to work together for the benefit of our community by staying at home and enjoying the time to work/reconnect with ourselves and loved ones as safely as possible. If you are reading this, you are blessed you have a screen, with internet and a vast amount of recourses to occupy yourself. If you are forced to stay home you are blessed to have a home to stay warm in, a fridge with food and garage filled with a years supply of toilet paper, a couch to rest, a phone to call friends, a currently healthy body to pamper and likely people living with you to converse with. You are blessed. During a time of fear and potential duress you currently have so much. Its time to check ourselves. Stop the negative banter, act with responsibility, thank those who are working hard at the front lines, and cannot protect themselves at home and count our blessings. T R U T H : I had a lot of trouble wrapping my head around this during my time studying Traditional Medicine. . 1 I came from a western med background which basically disregarded any modality of care false/placebo/witchcraft if it didn’t have quantitative peer reviewed research to back its efficacy. Seems legit! If we can prove how things communicate and work in the body for better or worse, lets! But lets not disregard things that we have seen work many times, but cannot ...explain. 2 Traditional Medicine can appear so simple or easy to correct an imbalance that it can seem way to good to be true. To think... eating foods that agree with our body, spending time in nature, sleeping in accordance to nature, moving our body daily, being kind to oneself, expressing love/gratitude regularly could all be key fundamentals in maintaining optimal health. Its too simple right? . Over the years Ive come to respect that there is a place for both eastern and western medicine. Its good to consider both when dealing with any kind of health ailment. .
