I know how hard it can be to prioritize yourself when you have little ones but it’s so important. Getting checked and developing a proper rehabilitation program for your pelvic floor & core post-birth is more than just #selfcare it should be the standard we set for ourselves. A study published in The British Journal of Sports Medicine found that 32% of women still have a diastasis at 12 months postpartum. It really won’t go away on it’s own. I’ve found substantial gaps ...in the abdomen of women 10, 20+ years postpartum. The complications of diastasis recti include incontinence, back and/or pelvic pain, organ prolapse, and can cause a sequelae of events leading to hernia or disc herniation. The goods news is that the body responds so well to the proper dose & blend of manual therapy and exercise rehabilitation. It’s not super labour intensive either most of my patients are healing their diastasis and improving/resolving their pain + dysfunction with work that takes just a few minutes a day. It’s just important that you’re consistent and doing the exercises properly... as well as modifying things that can make it worse. TAG a new mom, or a woman that complains of some of the common symptoms that arise from an unchecked diastasis. The conversation and subsequent treatment surrounding this topic is helping so many women! #GROWCO #postpartumrehab #takebackpostpartum #pregnancyhealth #birthtrauma #pelvicfloorphysio #fourthtrimester #postpartumlife #postnatalhealth #postnatalrecovery #womenswellness #pelvicfloorhealth #postnatalrecovery #wellnesseducation #pelvicpain #hormones #pelvicfloor #postpartum #postpartumdoula #postpartumhealth

Baby Thomas came to see me at just 3 weeks old because he was having difficulties latching and creating a strong sucker strength. Mama was adjusted all throughout her pregnancy and knew the value of a baby wellness checkup. After a tongue tie revision and a few adjustments, he’s a strong feeder and growing like a weed Interested in getting your little one checked? I’d love to help . .... . #icpa4kids #icpa #chirokid #prenatalchiropractic #pediatricchiropractor #newbornchiropractic #healthykids #spinehealth #wellness #spinaladjustment #getadjusted #chiropractic #chiropractor #femaledoctor #womenchiropractors #naturalmedicine #whitby #whitbymoms #brooklin #brooklinmoms #oshawa #oshawamoms #whitbychiropractor #whitbychiropractic See more

DIAPHRAGMATIC BREATHING BENEFITS: as you inhale, the diaphragm expands and presses down on the abdominal contents - the pelvic floor must stretch to accommodate this. As we exhale, everything returns to neutral. This gentle stretching and relaxation of the pelvic floor is very important to initiate healing after birth. It may also help with low back pain, neck tension & overall stress. Begin on your back and place one palm on your chest and the other on your belly. ... As you begin to inhale, focus on filling your belly with air - your hand will rise with the breath, with minimal movement at your chest. As you exhale, release all the air from your lungs - notice your bottom hand lowering with the breath while fully relaxing your abdomen. Repeat for several cycles. . . . #GROWCO #postpartumrehab #takebackpostpartum #pregnancyhealth #birthtrauma #pelvicfloorphysio #fourthtrimester #postpartumlife #postnatalhealth #postnatalrecovery #womenswellness #pelvicfloorhealth #postnatalrecovery #wellnesseducation #pelvicpain #hormones #pelvicfloor #postpartum #postpartumdoula #postpartumhealth #yoga #savasana #whitby #whitbychiro #whitbychiropractor See more

If I had to pick just one thing to prescribe to my patients to support their pelvic health it would be specific & intentional breathwork. As you inhale, your diaphragm moves down and pushes down on your intraperitoneal organs, which in turn pushes down on the pelvic floor, causing it to stretch to accommodate. On exhalation, everything moves up which causes a slight contraction through the pelvic floor musculature.... Life with baby is hectic, messy and crazy. A few intentional, deep breaths throughout the day can be just what you need to find a sense of peace, but also to get started working on your continence, improve abdominal form & function, relieve aches and pains and contribute to total body health. #GROWCO #postpartumrehab #takebackpostpartum #pregnancyhealth #birthtrauma #pelvicfloorphysio #fourthtrimester #postpartumlife #postnatalhealth #postnatalrecovery #womenswellness #pelvicfloorhealth #wellnesseducation #pelvicpain #hormones #pelvicfloor #postpartum #postpartumdoula #postpartumhealth #whitbymoms #whitby #brooklinmoms #brooklin #oshawmoms #oshawa #whitbychiropractic #pregnancychiro

Did you know it takes ~280 days for your ligaments to heal after birth? That’s 238 days beyond the 6 week clearance mark! TVA ACTIVATION Your transverse abdominis (TVA) is a deep abdominal muscle which acts as a major stabilizer for the lower back and abdominals. When activated, this muscle acts as a natural corset for your low back. In order to have a functional core, whether during pregnancy, postpartum (to rehab that diastasis recti), or if experiencing every day low back pain, it’s extremely important to rehabilitate and strengthen this deep core muscle. ... Imagine your bellybutton is on a string and you’re pulling it towards your spine. Note: you’re not sucking it in. This is a controlled movement which allows you to breathe and talk throughout it. Take a few breaths while maintaining your contraction. Release, reset and repeat. . . . #prenatalexercise #abdominalstrength #pregnancy #prenatalfitness #pregnancyhealth #postpartumrehab #takebackpostpartum #pelvicfloorphysio #postpartumlife #postnatalhealth #postnatalrecovery #womenswellness #wellnesseducation #pelvicpain #pelvicfloor #postpartum #pelvicfloorrehab #coreworkout #coreexercises

Mama, do not accept that childbirth means you have to pee your pants for the rest of your life! So many common complications of pregnancy have been accepted as normal, but I’m here to tell you there is so much we can do to fix it (forever!) Muscle pain, pelvic organ prolapse, persistent bloating and separated abs are just some of the symptoms people dismiss as an inevitable consequence of being a mother. It’s our job to support and empower women to treat their bodies with ...care, compassion and proper rehab. You don’t have to suffer just because you had a baby. Achy muscles, low back and pelvic pain, fatigue, depression, brain fog: these are just some of the symptoms that people tend to dismiss during motherhood. Important postnatal indicators are shrugged off as something that comes with the territory of being a mother. I’m here to help with your postpartum healing mama. . . . #GROWCO #postpartumrehab #takebackpostpartum #pregnancyhealth #birthtrauma #pelvicfloorphysio #fourthtrimester #postpartumlife #postnatalhealth #postnatalrecovery #womenswellness #doulalove #postnatalrecovery #wellnesseducation #pelvicpain #hormones #pelvicfloor #postpartum #postpartumdoula #postpartumhealth

PUMPKINS Did you know that pumpkins are one of the most nutritious fruits around? The seeds are packed with protein, vitamin C, magnesium, iron, and zinc. Eating pumpkin during pregnancy helps maintain blood sugar levels, ease constipation as it is a great source of fibre and can help with abdominal cramps. Not only will mama benefit from this super fruit, but pumpkin seeds are a great source of omega-3 to help with brain development for babe.

PASSENGER The baby (Passenger) wants to get into the best position possible to descend through the birth canal. The movements inherent to the baby will be positively facilitated when the mother’s nervous system is optimally functioning and her pelvis is balanced. Birth is a cooperative endeavor, where the mom and the baby play vitally connected roles. Check out icpa4kids.com to find a Webster Technique certified practitioner in your area.
