What a beautiful day to just kick back on the deck and enjoy some final sanding on this eagle. Happy summer everyone!
I know this is last minute but due to popular request I carved 5 more comfort birds. Three have already flown out of the studio so two remain to find their forever friend. If you are looking for a Christmas gift and live close by this may be what you have been waiting for. Just call the studio at 506-321-2276.
I had an amazing day at the Europa Inn Artists Show and sale. It was wonderful to see many old friends and make a few new ones. Thanks so much Markus and Simone Ritter for inviting me to take part in your show and for your hospitality.
Thanks one and all for the messages. The last Santa for 2019 has shipped out today. I guess I will have to make a few again next year. Merry Christmas!
Here is a photo of the "old world style" Santa that is still for sale, I think...... Thanks everyone for the emails and inquiries. Please like and share this page.
This little Santa has left the studio for his forever home. I have one old world style Santa left if anyone is interested in adding to their Christmas decoration collection. Just message me.
I have donated a hand carved one of a kind "old world style" Santa to the gift basket at VMES. They are selling tickets to help raise funds for the elementary school. If you are in the area and would like a chance to win the carving just get a ticket at VMES. I believe they are selling them this Friday during parent teacher meetings. He is tucked into the basket leaning against a large box of chocolates the bear is holding. Whats not to love!
The comfort bird assembly line. What are comfort birds you ask? Comfort Birds are simply designed then individually and lovingly hand-carved right here in St. Andrews, New Brunswick. No two are alike. As their name implies, Comfort Birds are often used to bring comfort to people who are anxious or have been through trauma. They are also used by people in physical pain, who may be grieving a loss, or facing the end of life. The birds provide a smooth, comforting, tactile expe...rience. Stroke victims have found it useful to hold a bird throughout a troubled night to prevent a hand from closing. Many have held a Comfort Bird as they have chosen to be still, reflective and focused on prayer. Contemplatives have used Comfort Birds during meditation and prayer. Others have held a Comfort Bird while giving a presentation or delivering an important speech, testimony or sermon. Young people who have been traumatized have been given a Comfort Bird to hold while they are telling their stories. The birds remind us that we too are held, even in the darkest of times. We are of much more value than a sparrow, and yet a sparrow is seen, acknowledged, known and cared for. Comfort birds have natural blemishes, symbolic of our own hurts and wounds. They are a reminder that our scars and wounds give us character, that being imperfect does not mean we are less valuable or less lovable, and they remind us that living with memories of traumatic events, disappointment or hurt, can be rich and meaningful. Message me or drop by the studio to get yours today.
Video showing the Algonquin Display. Feel free to like and share on Facebook.
With the annual hawk watch in full swing here in New Brunswick, the Algonquin Marriott hotel have set up a few of my carvings as the main display in the entrance to the hotel.
This photo is of the top 3 carvings in my division. While I was fortunate to be awarded 1st place "Best of Show" I was perhaps more excited to have a person who fly's falcons at International airports approach me and tell me that my carving was the most realistic looking raptor at the show. Hopefully this will be the start of a long relationship as he is going to hook me up with some of his staff so I can meet his birds up close. Very exciting!!!
My Merlin won first place Best of Show at the New Brunswick Wood Carving Competition in St. Andrews today.

Our local television station stopped by today which was a lot of fun.
This Merlin is not finished but close. Since I had the camera out I took a few photos of it.
Here is a close up solo photo of the carving that did so well at the World Championships
First in Category, Best in Division and 3rd Best of Show. That is my Peregrine Falcon on the right at the Ward World Championship in Ocean City, Maryland. For wood carvers this is like the Olympics where you compete against people from all over the world. This was the first time I have entered a carving. This show was one on the bucket list.
The barn owl and antiqued puffin are out of the studio and on display at the gallery.
