A long time customer called me last month for a service call and I don’t think it’s a call I’ll ever forget. In the middle of the conversation, he suddenly said My mom died last night and....I’m sorry, I don’t know why I’m telling you this. We proceeded to talk for an hour about life in general. I forwarded all my incoming calls to our owner. I made sure I was completely present. I could tell he needed it. We hung up and I couldn’t stop thinking about him. He felt the need ...to apologize and he shouldn’t have. I was happy to talk to him for as long as he needed but I think the realization for me was how we are so apprehensive to talk about things that bother, upset or anger us. Fear of judgement? Fear of perceived weakness? Fear of bothering someone? Whatever it may be, we need to stop the stigma. We really need to be completely present and realize what’s going on in the world around us. Happily saying goodbye to 2020 and welcoming 2021 with new goals and an absolutely positive outlook! Happy New Year to all of you!

I am loving all of these calls with pure joy and gratitude, thanking us for getting back their heat and hot water. It’s the very small things that are slowly helping those who lost so much smile again. On we go to another week full of getting people home!

Couple really common questions these past couple days so if anyone else has them on their mind, I’ll do my best to address them here. #1) If the hot water tank gets to pressure and boils the water inside the tank, can we just cool the hot water from the tap instead of boiling again? - No. All water from taps should be boiled as per the city advisory. The new water coming into the tank to replace the water going out may not have been properly boiled inside before it exits. Bo...il all your water until the advisory has been lifted. #2) Can you get me one of those UV filtration things people are talking about so I don’t have to boil my water? - Simple answer, yes we can get you one. Our wholesalers sent us the attached specs the other day. The complicated answer, there is no guarantee you wouldn’t have to boil your water. We aren’t certain what’s currently contaminating the water therefore I’m not sure anything can guarantee killing it. We are waiting on information from the people who would really know this, however, so if you want one installed, you can contact us and we will let you know when we know more.

This post stopped me dead in my tracks. Jenn and Nathan are two of the best customers you can ask for, and Jenn has become my friend through volleyball. She’s a wife. An amazing mother. An athlete. And now, an absolute pillar for me. We went to their house today, and although she has faced pure devastation this past week, met us with a smile in her ball cap, muddy coveralls, mask and boots. She was clearing and throwing out the many items that hold so many special memories for her, her kids, her husband, their family. But, she prevails. She persists. She is the very definition of resilient. If there is someone who is capable of depicting the immense strength and determination of our community for me, it’s her.

My kids are my hero’s! And so is my friend Cassie! We brought some lunch down and they were so happy to say see ya later to their dad knowing all the good he was doing. Seeing the people downtown come together is like nothing I have ever seen. Well done Fort Mac.
