Oat milk vs almond milk? This seems to be the main question being asked by those wanting to make the switch from cow’s milk to alternatives. So let’s look at the nutritional differences between the two. OAT MILK Calories: 120 Fat: 5 g... Saturated fat: 0.5 g Sodium: 100 mg Carbs: 16 g Sugar: 7 g Fiber: 2 g Protein: 4 g ALMOND MILK Calories: 60 Fat: 2.5 g Saturated fat: 0. g Sodium: 150 mg Carbs: 8 g Sugar: 7 g Fiber: 1 g Protein: 1 g *per 1 unsweetened cup* The truth is, rotating between the alternatives is best. For example, buy oat milk one week, almond milk the next week, then try macadamia nut. etc. This will help you get the benefits from all the varieties and also be sure you don't build up antibodies to them. What's your favourite milk alternative?

MINDFUL EATING MEDITATION! When was the last time you sat down to eat a meal without any distractions? When we multitask when we’re eating, we’re more likely to overeat, eat just because we’re feeling bored or sad, and eat too quickly. So today, I challenge you to try this mindful eating meditation to help you slow down and actually enjoy your meal. 1. Sit down to your meal without any distractions (eg. no phones or tv)... 2. Express gratitude for what you’re about to eat 3. As you chew your food, really become aware of how it tastes, how it feels, how it smells, and how it makes you feel 4. Put your fork down between each serving and don’t pick it back up until you’ve finished chewing and swallowing what’s in your mouth See more

Did you know your thyroid levels may not be balanced, even if your blood test is normal? Types of hypothyroidism: 1 Hypothyroid: Low output of thyroid hormone low T4 and low T3 Toxins and nutritional deficiencies can affect the Thyroid. Proper thyroid function requires iodine, tyrosine, zinc, selenium, vitamins D, B2, B6 and C.... 2 Functional hypothyroidism: Poor conversion of inactive T4 to active T3 In this case, we not only would want to test TSH levels, but also free T4, total T4, free T3 and total T3 hormone levels. Imbalances can be caused by excess estrogen, chronic sleep disturbances, nutritional deficiencies, as well as drugs, chemicals, and toxic metals. 3 Functional hypo-metabolism: Blocked receptors When lab tests show normal T4/T3 levels, but symptoms of low thyroid still occur, the main cause is usually stress. Cortisol blocks the thyroid receptors and can lead to many types of thyroid symptoms, despite having a normal TSH. Whatever the case may be, my clinic will get to the bottom of your symptoms and come up with a comprehensive treatment plan to help support you on your road to optimal health. Did you know that there’s a link between exercise and the immune system? Along with keeping the body healthy and strong, regular exercise increases circulation and reduces inflammation, which help support a healthy immune response. Physical activity may also help flush out toxins and optimize body function Exercising is not going to magically boost immunity, but regular physical activity will definitely help promote a healthy immune system. That being said, you don’t want to... overdo it when it comes to exercising. When we push ourselves too hard, cortisol levels in the body raise, which can actually deplete our immune cells, compromising the immune system. Don’t know what exercises you should be doing for your body and your goals? My clinic’s exercise physiologist can work with you to create the most effective exercise plan for you. If coffee gives you the Monday morning jitters, then matcha may be what you need! Matcha is a form of green tea made by finely grinding the tea leaves into a powder. Matcha can be a great alternative to coffee because it contains caffeine, but won’t give you the same racing heart and restlessness that you may get when drinking coffee. Because matcha contains the natural substance l-theanine, which increases focus and relaxation without causing drowsiness, matcha is thought to... have a more calming, prolonged energy boost compared to coffee. Thinking about making the switch to matcha? Give this delicious matcha latte recipe a try! MATCHA TEA LATTE Ingredients: 1 tsp matcha green tea powder 1 tbs hot water cup hot milk (or dairy free alternative) Sweetener of choice to taste Instructions: Whisk matcha and hot water together in a mug until there are no lumps. Add in milk and sweetener. Enjoy! Are you team coffee or matcha? Let me know in the comments!
