I loved this chart. We need to watch closer how we talk to ourselves. Whether we notice or not, our self-talks pave brain pathways that impact our behaviour and the way we feel about things. Next time you catch yourself having a ‘talk’ to yourself, ask if you would say those things to your best friend.

We are back with more info about our Vagus Nerve! We already discussed some tricks that can stimulate the vagus nerves, so here we go with some more info in the hopes we all learn how to better calm our nervous system down. Our vagus nerve has a ‘tone’ that is basically the activity of the nerve. Having a high vagal tone (and an increase Heart Rate Variability HRV) means that you are able to relax faster after a stressful situation. Aren’t we all looking for that?... To increase your vagal tone and respond more effectively to stress, anxiety, depression, here are more tips that can stimulate your vagus nerve and its calming function: 4. Exercises is vastly recommended not only for a good physical health but also for mental health (any 15 minutes’ walk is a great start!) 5. Massage in specific areas of the body like neck/foot massage 6. Socializing - some good laughs can go a long way! PS: Have you heard about a brain implant device that it has been used for treatment-resistance depression? So, it is an implant that stimulates the vagus verve. Of course, this option comes with its risks and is done as last resources. Keep working hard! And assume the driver’s seat of your life find a psychotherapist if you need! You can find my info on by bio.

Did you know that it takes an average of 2 MONTHS before we truly embrace a NEW BEHAVIOUR? The challenge of changing. It takes time to shift a behaviour. In life we go through all those stages in many different occasions. We advance to the Preparation stage when we are not happy with a specific behaviour or perhaps a behaviour that is not serving us anymore. But why is it so hard to change then? Break a habit?... First, we cannot forget that human beings are creatures of habit we love PREDICTABILITY! Change means to see/feel SOMETHING NEW something that might not be pleasant. We also FEAR FAILING! This is a real feeling that can be hard to overcome. Those are just a few reasons why we can spend a long time in the Contemplation stage. However, sometimes life obligates (well, let’s say invites) us to change. If that resonates to you, and you are facing INEVITABLE CHANGES in your life, here are some tricks that might help you: 1. Give yourself TIME TO ADJUST to the new 2. Allow yourself to FEEL THE FEAR talk to a mental health professional or someone you trust 3. Increase SELF-CARE go for an extra walk, take a warm bath, spend extra time with a loved one

How is your WINDOW OF TOLERANCE doing lately? During stressful times, it is common to be more irritable, less tolerant, more impulsive. That is vastly because our brains are scanning for threats no stop! It is easy for our minds to slip through hyper vigilance and over arousal. Our window of tolerance varies during our life spam and here are a few things to help you deal with stress:... 1. Practice MINDFULNESS - focus on your senses! Feel your feeling instead of thinking about them! 2. Look for a therapist to TALK and process your tough moments - therapy can help you increase your window of tolerance and live a calmer and meaningful life #psychotherapy #dansiegel #windowoftolerance #ptbocanada

Do we ever go back? . . For me? NEVER! There is no doubt that sometimes it feels like we fall back! But the reality is that our LEARNING never stops! We are always MOVING FORWARD in one way or another! @jack_kornfield wrote this past week: No matter what has passed, we can always begin again. We can only begin now, where we are, and it is this now that becomes the see for all that lies ahead. Allow your experience to bring out your best self.

Did you know that your #vagusnerve is what helps you to feel calm? It is one of our longest nerves and it connects the brain to important organs like our stomach, intestines, heart, lungs, vocal cords, and so on. The nerve is then responsible to regulate our digestion, heart rate, breathing, blood pressure, speaking, and even inflammation. Here are some simple exercises that can stimulate your vagus nerve and its calming function: 1. Give some deep and slow breathes ... 2. Try singing, humming, or repeating the sound ‘OM’ 3. Wash your face with cold water Meditation and a healthy diet are also great ways to stimulate your nerve! The expression I have a gut feeling comes from the fact that the vagus nerve is connected to your guts and carries messages from and to your brain. Want to feel calmer? Give your vagus nerve a shake! Stay tuned for more details on how the vagus nerve is related to our mental health! Be well, Daniela #psychotherapy #peterborough #ptbocanada #mentalhealth

On this #MoodyMonday I reflect on that idea that we MUST be producing more because we might be having more time in our hands. Facing a pandemic, a common reaction is to spend more energy in our survival mode as this part of our brain is more engaged to protect us and keep our head above the water. Is this a problem? Absolutely not! But what can be problematic is to ignore that fact and/or keep trying to be as productive as before the pandemic. According to the article, here a...re a few points that can help, in case you are feeling a bit off: 1. Remind yourself this situation is temporary 2. It is ok, not be ok 3. Work only the minimum you need to get your job done and use the rest of your time to do things you really enjoy 4. Practice grounding techniques and progressive relaxation Want to learn more about it? Give the first step and let’s discuss if working together is right for you at this moment! You can email me at [email protected] or call (249) 700-51-55 to book your 20-minutes free consultation. Be well, Daniela https://www.huffingtonpost.ca//dont-care-about-work-corona
