Very excited about Ayruvedic practitioner Mona Warner joining our team. Her insight and knowledge about Ayruvedic medicine is incredible. Not sure what Ayruveda is? Follow the link below to learn more about this ancient perspective on health and wellness. Looking forward to working and learning from her.

The magic of bone broth. . There isn’t anything quite like a homemade bone broth. Rich in glutamine, collagen and glycine it is like a warm hug for your digestive system. I prescribe this often. . Plus it makes the perfect vessel to add minerals (seaweeds), immune support (astragalus, wild yam), anti-virals (thyme, rosemary) and anti-inflammatories (garlic, ginger, turmeric). Medicine in a bowl.... . Use high bones (organic or grass fed). Medicinal mushrooms can be used for a vegan option too. . Cook in the Instapot or slow cooker. Add to soups, stew or grains. Can’t even compare to the tetra pack stuff (mostly water). Make big batches and freeze for later. . On this rainy Sunday I made classic chicken soup with pearl barley. Added a cheese and garlic scone for good measure. . Food can be healing and delicious. . . . . #ygk #naturopathicdoctor #naturopathicmedicine #naturopath #foodasmedicine #bonebroth #soup See more

Low Vitamin D I spend a lot of time outdoors and supplement Vitamin D all year. But I am still a bit low. So happy I got tested! Now I will increase my dosing of Vitamin D and keep my immune system ticking through the winter months. ... Not sure if you taking enough Vitamin D? Simple blood work will tell you. Then a health provider will tell you how much to take. Vitamin D plays an important role in mood, immune function, thyroid activity, bone health and so much more. So easy to keep your levels up once you know where you are currently at. Get tested. Know your levels. Stay optimal this winter. . . . . #ygk #naturopathicmedicine #naturopathicdoctor #vitamind #sunshine #health #immune See more

Getting into a creative flow can be quite cathartic. We can release emotions, process thoughts and find a grounded sense of calm through making art. It is a magical thing. Perfectionism ruins the flow. Sometimes it stops it from even starting. I prescribe making crappy art often. Encouraging the patient to create imperfect and flawed things and embrace them. Learning it is the process that is healing not a perfect end product.... So create! Draw, paint, write etc. Do it terribly and embrace every moment. . . . . #naturopathicmedicine #arttherapy #ygk #perfectionism #art #naturopath #healing See more

Grateful for this beautiful country we live in. Grateful for little people who love to cuddle. Grateful for cozy campers, warm socks and morning coffee. ... Many of us are missing things/people this weekend. I am too. Remembering what I am grateful for helps me navigate the void of missing. Luckily there is always something to be grateful for. . . . . #grateful #ygk #naturopath #naturopathicmedicine #gratitude #thanksgiving See more

Popsicle Season! It went from snow to summer overnight night but I am not complaining. Time for popsicles.... I blended 4 cups of frozen strawberries + 1/2 of organic full fat Greek yogurt + 2 tbsp of honey 1 tsp of vanilla. Added a bit of coconut water to get it to blend thoroughly. Freeze and enjoy. That is it. So easy. They have protein, only natural sugar and no crap. Summer we are ready for ya! @ South Frontenac Township, Ontario

First day of school. So many emotions. . Will you wear your mask? Will it feel scary? Is this safe? . I had to take a moment this morning and remind myself children are resilient and can do hard things. My 5 year old reminded me of this too when she told me I don’t need you to meet me off the bus. I am fine. ... . Deep gratitude to all the teachers, bus drivers, helpers and support staff today. Thank you. . And parents. We will be fine.

Garden tour in my story today. First time growing kohlrabi, fennel and rutabaga. Every year there are new challenges. Always feel hopeful this time of year. If my garden teaches me anything it is have hope, plan for the future but don’t get attached to outcomes. Failures are a given. I don’t garden just for the fresh vegetables (although they are delicious) but for the process of gardening itself. Connect to the earth. Care for it and it will deliver you gifts. ... Those are a few of the lessons from the garden today. And mulch...always mulch. @ South Frontenac Township, Ontario

In person consultations now available. Slow making my way back in to clinic and seeing patients Tuesdays and Wednesday from 9:30am to 1pm. We are taking every precaution to keep our community and patients safe. Here are some of things we are doing at KIHC: -Limiting the number of practitioners seeing patients at a time in the clinic. -Screening of every patient prior to coming to clinic (via electronic questionnaire) and in-person screening with the practitioner. I will be t...aking everyone's temperature at their visit. -Asking all patients to wear a mask. If they don't have a mask we will provide one. All practitioners will be wearing masks and appropriate PPE. -Frequent hand washing, maintaining 2 metres of distance when possible, and sanitizing the office before and after each appointment. Telemedicine continues to be available and will always be available moving forward. If you have any questions please call KIHC at 613-547-5442 or email me at [email protected] Looking forward to seeing you. :)

Such a great reminder. We all need coping mechanisms- especially these days. The focus is trying to build coping mechanisms that support health not deteriorate it.

Let kids play in mud. Let them eat dirt. That is how we build our microbiome and ultimately our immune system. Part of me worries about the extra sterilized world we are heading into. I am all for hand washing but the extreme focus on bleaching and lysoling isn’t going to be great for our internal biodiversity. The hygiene hypothesis suggests that our over sterilized society is linked to allergies, eczema and asthma in children. Farm kids have lower rates of all thre...e. Our gut needs bacteria- lots of different and diverse bugs. Think of it like an ecosystem, you want biodiversity not monocrops. How diverse a persons gut ecosystem is will directly impact their immune system. Like I said let the kids eat dirt. . . . . #ygk #paediatrics #naturopathic #kingston #microbiome #naturopathicdoctor See more

Meal planning got you down? I am hearing from people they are cooking more these days but starting to get into a food rut. So I thought I would share what we have been eating in hopes to provide some inspiration. My 4 year old requested I take pictures of her plate- sooo here ya go! Korma with tofu and Dahl over cauliflower rice. Broccoli as a bonus. Hearty vegetable soup with salad... Kale cesear salad with chickpeas and boiled eggs Turkey tacos Turkey pot pie with salad (we clearly cooked a big turkey last week) Quesadillas with gauc and brown rice and beans Ratatouille topped with an egg with salad. I try to get vegetables in every night. Aiming for 2-3 vegetarian nights, an egg night and some meat light meals. Soup and stews are staples. We do our best to avoid grain-focused meals but tonight we are having pizza! All about balance. Want a recipe? DM I am happy to share. Happy cooking! . . . . . . #mealplanning #ygk #kingston #naturopathicmedicine #naturopathicdoctor @ South Frontenac Township, Ontario See more
