This past weekend, Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health updated the list of essential workplaces that can remain open in response to the growing COVID-19 concerns. Veterinary services remain on the list, however those services are restricted to urgent care only. The decision to remain open hasn’t been a clear-cut one during these uncertain times, however the team at Bailey Mobile Veterinary Services feels that the welfare of aging and terminally ill pets is still one o...f our top priorities. Our other priority is keeping everyone involved healthy and safe. We have decided to restrict our services to in-home euthanasia only at this time, and are making a number of changes to our protocols in an effort to keep you, your family, our staff, and their families safe during this time. There are a lot of factors to consider regarding the safety of an in-home visit during this pandemic, and each family will have its own unique concerns. Please visit the ‘COVID-19’ section of our website to see everything that we are doing to keep us all safe, what you can do to do the same, as well as things to consider before choosing an in-home visit for your pet’s final moments. We will keep you all up-to-date as things continue to evolve. Stay safe everyone, and please stay home. https://www.drbaileyvetcare.com/protocols-and-consideration

Handsome Andy enjoyed his first medical manipulation (chiropractic) and acupuncture treatments today. We love to see lots of releasing while the needles do their magic!

Our sweet new friend Tripod Joey received his first acupuncture treatment today. Joey was born with only three limbs. This means that the rest of his body has to compensate for the missing limb, which is complicated even more by the fact that he is still growing. We think he wears acupuncture needles well, and we cant get over that cute face of his!

As the show season wraps up we would like to take this time to celebrate this superstar. Tyson is one of our regulars, and it has been such a joy to watch him accept his medical manipulation (chiropractic) and acupuncture sessions more and more with each treatment that he receives. Tyson has been showing in the Arabian and Western Dressage circuits this year and has done quite well for himself, as you can see. Here he is with all of his winnings from the Region 18 Champio...nship Show this summer. We also just received news that Tyson has earned his Legion of Honour award from the Arabian Horse Association (AHA), which is a point-based distinction for horses that have competed and placed at AHA-events. Congratulations to Tyson and his team of hard working owners and coaches for making it all possible! We see a Legion of Supreme Honour in his future! ;) See more

Hey Integration Nation! This holiday weekend has us thinking about what we are most thankful for, and one of those things is the ability to share the sometimes life-changing power of medical manipulation (chiropractic) with our patients. Wed like you to meet our sweet friend, Kit. When asked about our most rewarding case, Kits story is always the one we tell. He came to his current owner as a rescued, retired racehorse and was in pretty rough shape, sadly. We met him a... few months later, and you would never guess what he had been through just by looking at him, thanks to his owners hard work and TLC. He still had one underlying issue though. We were asked to take a look at Kit because of a suspected issue with his temporomandibular joint (TMJ) or jaw joint. Something had happened which resulted in Kit not being able to move his mandible from side to side, and as a consequence he had difficulty eating hay. He would try to nibble on it, but would never come close to finishing what was offered to him. Being able to eat a species-appropriate diet is not only important for Kits gut health, but it can also affect his teeth. Horses teeth are constantly erupting, and the side-to-side grinding motion used to eat hay or grass helps them to keep their teeth at an appropriate length and prevent more serious dental issues from arising. Sure enough, upon examination it was found that Kit did have a TMJ restriction. You can even see the tension that Kit was holding in his face from his Before picture. All it took was a subtle adjustment by Dr. Lauren and his TMJ was no longer restricted. We think his After picture shows the Zen State we try to achieve for all of our patients just perfectly! The thing we love the most about medical manipulation (chiropractic) is that we can see changes in our patients immediately. We are happy to report that Kit has been GOBBLING up his hay ever since! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Hey Integration Nation! Wed like to take the time to introduce you to this sweet girl, Kouluah. She holds a special place in our hearts here at BMVS, because Kouluah was one of Dr. Laurens regulars when she was doing equine massage MANY years ago, which was before she even knew she wanted to be a veterinarian. Seeing how much horses like Kouluah benefited from their massages helped Dr. Lauren to realize that she wanted to be able to help the animals that she loved even m...ore, and ultimately lead her down her current career path. Fast forward to today and its no surprise that Kouluah has acquired some arthritic changes over the years. She gets regular acupuncture and medical manipulation (chiropractic) treatments in addition to traditional care from her regular veterinarian to help manage her arthritis. Using this integrative approach she is still able to perform and maintain a good quality of life despite these aging changes. Kouluah has come to love her treatments so much that she actually starts licking her lips BEFORE the first needle is even placed now! You can see her continuing to have positive releases and licking her lips with all of the needles in place in this video too.

Hello to all of our followers, aka Integration Nation. We will be the first to admit that keeping up with social media is not our strong suit, but thats just because weve been having too much fun helping our equine patients these last few months! We are extremely passionate about integrating Eastern medicine and alternative treatment modalities with traditional Western medicine, and would like to use this page to share that passion with all of you. We will be posting things like cases, patient highlights, frequently asked questions, and more, all while educating you guys about integrative medicine along the way. Stay tuned for our first post coming tomorrow!

Here at Bailey Mobile Veterinary Services, we have a soft spot for our grey-faced friends, especially this guy! This is Dr. Laurens horse, Bart. He celebrated his 27th birthday last week with an acupuncture treatment to help with his COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder). Judging by all of the lip licking he was doing, not only did Bart enjoy his acupuncture session, but he really needed the release too! (Video is in the comments.) COPD, also referred to as heave...s or Recurrent Airway Obstruction (RAO), is the most common respiratory disease in horses. It is caused by an allergic reaction to an environmental allergen such as dust or pollen. This causes the cells in the lining of Barts lungs to swell and thicken due to an inflammatory response to the allergen, making it difficult for him to breathe. Those of you with asthma can probably relate! Barts COPD is being managed using an integrative approach, which means he is being treated with both traditional and alternative methods. Check out our website to learn more about our services, including acupuncture. Contact us if you have any questions about integrative treatment options for your own horse.
