Champions aren’t bred overnight, nor are championship mindsets. Both take hard work, self-awareness and commitment to your craft and growth. In this week’s blog post, I share a few tips for creating a championship mindset: http://bethmccharles.ca//championship-mindset-the-forever/

We need to keep the conversation going for youth sport. I see too often the negative impact parents are having on their children in sport; the pressure youth coaches feel to win; and the pressure parents feel to do more. (and if they dont their children will fall behind). My questions is: to fall behind who and what? And if your mind is going to my kid may be the next professional athlete - please take a moment to reflect. You child will guide you 90% of the way through passion and drive. Coaches and parents - please dont ruin in for them! #fun #play #multisport #creativity https://www.littleleague.org//10-things-wrong-with-youth-/

Yesterday was a very special day with my family and friends, as we helped closed the Toronto stock exchange in support of Hospice Cape Breton The Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton is close to the hearts of our family and to the community in Cape Breton. As a way of giving back and to help raise money for the new building, we established a fundraiser for the Hospice Palliative Care in honour of our father, Robert. https://www.canadahelps.org//skate-for-hos...pice-cape-bret/ The family is also hosting an East Coast Holiday Skate at the Mattamy Athletic Centre (formerly Maple Leaf Gardens) on December 21 from 3-4pm to celebrate Roberts life and to share our gratitude. You can get more info and RSVP here: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/east-coast-family-skate-for-hos I am truly grateful for all of your support. Together we can help take care of those who have taken care of us over so many years within our community!

From my first days on campus, StFX University has held a special place in my heart. The role models, mentors, professors and coaches I encountered provided the foundation that enabled me to grow as a student, athlete, and person. Even more, the friends I made during my time at X are deeply rooted in my soul. StFX University's spirit is unrivalled. Its energy, community engagement and academic growth mindset allows even a 5'3 gal from Cape Breton to believe in herself and her ...capability to make even a small difference in this world. Thank you StFX Athletics for this honour and putting me among such a prestigious group of athletes, coaches, and builders. Hail and Health! https://www.goxgo.ca/gener/2019-20/releases/20190820fj1bvs

A bit of my story My passion is to help people find and understand their unique abilities and strive to be their best selves. Whether in sport, business or the arts, I want to help you follow your passion and do it amazingly well! My story starts where I grew up on an outstanding street in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia A proud tomboy, I loved people, being outside and sports. At first, I tried everything swimming, soccer, piano, basketball, skiing, gymnastics, danc...e, hockey, drama, public speaking, you name it I tried it! By the time I was a teenager I had to make some choices, and my passion at that time gravitated towards basketball , soccer , hockey , and my hidden passion, poetry . I loved these sports so much that I was willing to sacrifice most of my time to become better. As a Mental Performance Coach, I see new clients everyday that are so caught up in the chase that they dont have the chance to explore their creativity, learn to be self-aware or make decisions for themselves... I invite you to read more on what I think we need to do to help the next generation of dreamers in my introductory blog that just went live today http://bethmccharles.ca/blog/introduction/ Let me know what you think in the comments below. Be Kind. Be Bold. Be Great. - Beth

If you want to commit to perform your daily life at a higher level, you need to put in the work. For our mind and body to perform at an optimal level, exercise and mindfulness are two game-changing activities. Life is better when we can move from excuse and worry to discipline and optimism. Put the work in, I promise you will not regret it! More to come on changing habits and mindfulness:)

Thank you for sharing your insight The Agenda with Steve Paikin. Looking forward to our next discussion!

Dr. Beth McCharles 16.03.2020

Today I was honoured to be part of the panel at The Agenda with Steve Paikin to speak about some of my experience working with youth athletes and their parents. This is an important conversation that I am passionate about and believe needs to be an ongoing conversation to ensure we are raising, encouraging and promoting our youth in a positive and healthy manner.

My father sent me this message on October 19, 1999. It still holds true today. "I am a big believer in the 'power of the slight edge', which means you don't have to change everything you are doing to get five times the difference in results. Usually it's just a small handful of items. By focusing on these, you will build your confidence. And before you know it, you will feel that you are firmly on your path." This could mean waking up a bit earlier each morning, making su...re you exercise every day, journaling or reflecting on your goals or just start having a more positive conversation with yourself. What are your 'handful of small items?

It has been a very exciting year for me professionally. I feel honoured to have been working with some of Canadas best youth, artists and athletes to help them thrive and grow both in performance and life. I have also been fortunate to work with universities and corporations to help build championship cultures and guide coaches, teachers, and executives to build their authentic leadership philosophy. With all this excitement, I collaborated with Anchored Ideas to help me form a new brand and new website over the past year. I hope to deliver more content and research for everyone to access who is passionate about growing others and developing themselves. Stay tuned and thank you for your continued support.
