My newest Getting to Know Your Menstrual Cycle article is on the @juniperclinic blog! (Link in bio). It is all about ovulation: what it is, why it’s important, and how to tell if you have ovulated. The importance of ovulation goes beyond fertility, and it is necessary to talk about this because not everyone who ovulates wishes to become pregnant. Ovulation plays a role in hormone balance by supporting progesterone levels during the 2nd half(luteal phase) of the menstrua...l cycle. In addition to fertility, it is important for uterine health, cardiovascular health, and bone health, among other benefits. A lack of ovulation likely signals an underlying health concern, like PCOS, and should be investigated with a healthcare provider. Feel free to ask me your questions about ovulation, and let me know what you would like to learn about next! @n8images #naturopathvictoria #naturopathicmedicine #naturopathicdoctor #periodproblems #periodpower #ovulation #pcos #menstrualcycle #menstrualhealth #hormones #hormonesupport #selfawareness #womenshealth #yyjwellness #yyjhealth #yyjbusiness #selfcare #health #wellness

My latest article in the Getting to Know Your Menstrual Cycle series is now on the @juniperclinic blog. (Link in bio) It is all about the connection between mood and hormones, and my hope is that it will help release some of the stigma we have around mood fluctuations during the menstrual cycle. The main takeaways from my article are: The relationship between estrogen, progesterone, neurotransmitters (ex. serotonin), and mood is complex and there is still a lot we don’t... fully understand. Mood related PMS and PMDD typically occur before bleeding (luteal phase), and resolve during other times in the cycle. Tracking your menstrual cycle is the best way to determine if your mood fluctuations are predictably occurring during the luteal phase. I love @clueapp, but there are many menstrual cycle tracking apps out there. Keep in mind that lifestyle factors, like stress, sleep, diet, activity level, and support network, all influence mood. Therefore, improving your experience of menstruation will likely include addressing so much more than your hormones.
