GOALS . These days everyday feels like Groundhog Day. . set some goals so you have stuff to look forward to!... . Whether it’s Training or Therapy, Goals need to be: SPECIFIC MEASURABLE ACCOUNTABLE (patient or therapist) REALISTIC TIME BASED (have a deadline) . Once your Goals have been set with these parameters, then create HABITS that will get you there. . If you can’t create habits that will get you there, then you have to reassess your Goals. . @fitness_firm98 @gauravkandaphotography . #chiropractic #fitness #health #weightlifting #powerlifting #crossfit #training #therapy #burlington #hamilton #oakville @thrivewellnessburlington

DEADLIFT MYTH . Deadlifts may actually be beneficial for CERTAIN people with low back pain when performed correctly! . The key is to get your movement assessed and then get good coaching on execution of the movement.... . *NOTE* please do not just perform this exercise if you have back pain without getting an assessment and proper coaching. . #chiropractic #health #fitness #crossfit #powerlifting #exercise #deadlift #wellness #burlington @thrivewellnessburlington See more

SITTING MYTH . Humans (like many other mammals) were evolved to want to rest as much as possible because of the high cost of survival. . We have now changed our environment and cost of survival, but still have that need to rest.... . Consider these things in your daily practice. How active are you outside of resting time? Is your total rest proportional to your activities? How long are your sitting bouts? Keep getting up and sitting down. How are you sitting? - sitting in a chair at a computer all day is different from say sitting on the floor and building something out of wood or play the violin. . Take some time to sit back and think about these factors in your daily sitting habits and remember - you ARE evolved to sit but not exactly the way you’re doing it now. . Stay Happy. Healthy. Strong. . #chiropractic #naturalmovement #health #fitness #sitting #deskwork #office #ergonomics #physiotherapy #massage @thrivewellnessburlington See more

AGING . I turn 35 next weekend and I’ve realized how many habits I’ve changed in the last 5-10 years. . Here are some of the things I’ve changed or started in order to age optimally.... . I’d love to here some of the things YOU do or wish you did earlier in life. . SLEEP I always allow myself at least 9 hours of sleep OPPORTUNITY time - meaning I’m in bed by 8pm and up by 5 am. -I wake up without an alarm most days and if I need my alarm too many days, I check my @whoop to see if I need a break from training. . NUTRITION Dinner is my heaviest meal, so I make sure to eat it early enough to have an hour or more before I go to bed. (Heavy meals seem to disturb my sleep quality) I supplement and self experiment with Resveratrol and NMN daily - more info on this can be found in the book LIFESPAN by @davidsinclairphd I’ve added more organ meats and vegetables into my diet. I observe a Fast 1 day a week. I supplement with Berberine before high carb meals. . BODY/BRAIN TRAINING I train with weights in a larger variety of planes of motion- more lateral and rotational movements. I perform 40 minutes of mobility work (stretching etc) every morning to explore and expand all my joint ranges of motion. I practice 10 minutes of meditation including breathing work every morning. I’ve added more steady state aerobic movement (walking) 4 times per week. . What are YOUR healthy aging tips? COMMENT BELOW . Besides, it is a disgrace to grow old through sheer carelessness before seeing what manner of man you may become by developing your bodily strength and beauty to their highest limit. But you cannot see that, if you are careless; for it will not come of its own accord. -Xenophon, Memorabilia 3.12.8 . ***this post is for information purposes only and is not intended to treat or diagnose and must not be used as such.*** #chiropractic #aging #birthday #health #fitness #nutrition #exercise #supplementation #burlington @thrivewellnessburlington

Great Post from @mblacutt Why do we we have consciousness? What is it? - The Attention Schema Theory proposed by Michael Graziano and Taylor Webb from Princeton University proposes that we have consciousness so that we can direct attention ... - Graziano and Webb (2014) propose that consciousness comes out of model-based control of attention. Model-based control requires an entity to have three key things: 1) A model of current state 2) The ability to track changes in current state 3) The ability to predict the future state based on current state and changes in state - The AST proposes that in order to model the self, the stimulus and the attention that we pay to the stimulus, a low-resolution model of the process called awareness is needed. - Subjective awareness can be thought of as the subjective experience that gives rise to consciousness - A model-based control of attention though subjective experience allows us to be creatures that can subjectively choose where to pay attention, rather than to be creatures that simply react to salient stimuli - Please let me know what you think of my new posts, which will be aimed towards describing neuroscience, psychology and biomedical research - Graziano, M. Your brain is arguably the most critical organ in your body. Take good care of it by understanding it and restoring control over your mind.

MOVEMENT COMPETENCY . Creating movement competency precedes movement capacity.... =Move well first, then add external load. #Repost @jbaum25 @dr_clive_clutton_dc giving me some exercises to do to help my movement patterns, which has drastically helped my Olympic lifts. HEALTHY SHOULDER Hanging or brachiation (arm swinging) is an important movement in keeping a healthy functional shoulder healthy. . There ARE however several movement prerequisites required for this movement to be useful rather than detrimental.... . Please do not perform without having a competent licensed practitioner assessment of your movement and shoulder health. #primalmovement #monkeyaround #primalgoodlife #hangingchallenge . #Repost @leahpatrickfit Just monkeying around because sometimes it's fun to be silly. Also hanging is amazing for shoulder mobility. It's not always about strength training and body building.
