Just a friendly reminder that drinking water after cookies and other Christmas treats helps to wash away all that sugar that gets stuck between teeth.

Did you know that brushing your teeth with your non-dominant hand improves brain function? It encourages new neural pathways to form and activates both hemispheres of the brain! Give it a try!

#tiptuesday: For the best breath buster - grab some cinnamon gum! Cinnamon gum contains an ingredient called cinnamon aldehyde. This is the essential oil that hunts down and destroys cavity-forming bacteria. This is a great way to keep bacteria formation to a minimum in between brushes, AND keeps your breath fresher for longer, which really helps if you just can't resist that garlicky dip!

Charcoal toothpaste is high on the list of what's trending these days, but is it good for your teeth? Here's the low down: - The use of activated charcoal started during the 20th century and was mostly recommended for tooth whitening purposes only. - Charcoal's known abrasive properties poses a threat to the outermost covering of the tooth (enamel) leading to exposure of the inner layer known as dentin. Once the dentin is exposed it leads to dental complications such as tooth... sensitivity. - It has been observed that activated charcoal toothpaste lacks the recommended fluoride content, and thereby may pose a risk to dental health. We recommend sticking to the CDA approved brands, and visiting offices like ours for dentist approved whitening!

Winnipeg Jets legend Keith Tkachuck - love him or hate him! - had some major dental reconstructive surgery after a puck travelling approximately 160 km/h deflected off his mouth and into the net (followed by his teeth) while playing against the Chicago Blackhawks. He was able to play again a few weeks later. It's a good day to tell this story because guess who we're playing tonight! Go Jets Go! (image c/o GettyImages)

#tiptuesday: If you've recently had the flu, or a bad cold, don't forget to get a new toothbrush as soon as you are feeling better! The same old germs linger around, so you want to make sure you aren't exposing yourself again every time you brush.

'Tis the season for Vitamin D supplements. We've all heard of its benefits during the dark winters months, but did you know it's also good for the health of your teeth? Vitamin D promotes the remineralization process by helping our body absorb calcium, and as a result, helping keep a healthy level of calcium in the enamel of our teeth. Cool, right?
