Well, that was a cold start. Are you riding today? The Dr is still at work but at a reduced schedule. Emailing us is the preference these days. Stay warm and safe!
Hello patients, the Dr is planning another bike giveaway but we want to try something different this time. We have a few different bikes that have been donated so we want to hear from you, what type of bike should we consider for our next draw? Thanks for your feedback.
One more day until the temperature starts rising again. Is this the last of the arctic temperatures?
Wow, quite the bike. https://lamborghiniclubamerica.com/ebike

Bike Ottawa has some good tips on winter cycling, and they have a map on the Winter Cycling Network which not only has the City's official 40 km of dedicated plowed paths but can also be amended by users to show parts that are plowed but not part of the official network. Please share.

Happy mental health day. Respect water and woods for the grounding these elements bring. Peace In, Peace Out
What are your faves?
Just a reminder about the possibility of coming into contact with counterfeit bikes and wheels. Most of us know our gear and know what features to look for when... buying. Some do not however and a recent experience at the shop has prompted me to post a reminder or primer for those looking to buy an expensive bike. First off, GET A SERIAL NUMBER FOR THE BIKE AND IF APPLICABLE THE WHEEL SET. All manufacturers will have a serial number on their frames and many high end frame makers will have paper work authenticating the frame. They also encourage potential buyers to run serial numbers on their web sites to report on counterfeit bikes. Wheel manufacturers will also often have serial numbers on their wheel sets. When in doubt treat it as you would if you were buying a car. Take it to a shop of your choice and have your mechanic inspect the bike. If the seller does not agree to this and or they refuse to give a serial number, they have made your buying decision an easy one. Walk away. At $3000 or more it is good to know if you have the genuine article.

How can we make cycling more accessible to people across the city? 2020 has seen transformational changes around the city. With the introduction of #ActiveTO, m...any people began riding a bike for the first time or rediscovered their joy for cycling. The City's Transportation Services department installed both temporary and permanent bike lanes and also created new ways to make it easy for people to walk, cycle, and roll with the Major Road Openings on LakeShore Boulevard East and West and Bayview Avenue. Cycling routes are expanding at an incredible rate and we're seeing so much positivity in the city as support for cycling continues to grow. So how can we harness this positive energy and make it easier for people to get around? How can we ensure that ActiveTO continues into 2021? Join us at a free Advocacy Training session on Monday, November 2 to find out! This 1 hour session will go over Cycle Toronto's major advocacy priorities and provide tips on how to be an effective advocate. Quick tip: it's not just saying you support cycling infrastructure; it's also about building connections and developing relationships with other community organizations, businesses, and residents. Date: Monday, November 2 Time: 6:00-7:00 PM For more information and to register: https://www.cycleto.ca/civicrm/event/info?reset=1&id=75
Going through an old pedal collection...what variances.

Dr's took advantage of the weather and the closed parkway today. Next weekend is the last time you'll get to enjoy the closed SGEC parkway. Thanks to Bob Monette for the 3 repair stands on the path.

Changing bike mechanics can be a bit unnerving when you're looking at a new shop. We've worked really hard in the last few years on building a solid reputation of a shop that goes the extra kilometer, taking time to educate our clients about work needed on their bikes or helping people upgrade their parts. Want to see what others are saying? Look at our reviews here on our page, on our scheduling tool (https://www.genbook.com//slot/reservation/31303640/reviews.) or on Goo...gle. Thank you to all for your continued support and letting us keep you and your family rolling safely.

Alright, coast into the rest of the week like this. If you think your bike needs tweeking before attempting this, we still have openings for dropoff on Saturday.
Nice pitstop after rediscovering trails near Jeanne d'Arc. The Pilsner and the Lager are great products! The Dr trying out his Pivot.
Register your bike with 529 Garage. You can learn more about this new bike registry at ottawapolice.ca/endbiketheft.
With the upcoming by-election for Ward 19 Cumberland, now is the time to provide input to the candidates (currently at 6 total) on cycling issues not only in the ward but around the ward as well.

Good article about introducing friends to biking. The only thing I would add is "Take a lesson. BEFORE that first crash." ;)

The Doctors took a well deserved break today and headed out to South March Highlands. Where did you ride today? Any patients try SMH?... Remember, make sure your bike is locked properly while using a superiour lock.
As mentioned in the media recently, there have been a lot more bike thefts this year. Add another layer of protection to your bike by registering to Project 529. https://www.ottawapolice.ca//safety-and-cr/529-garage.aspx

Do you own a multi tool for your bike? If you don't, the doctor recommends every cyclist to have one handy. They are small, compact and relatively cheap (10-20$). These things can save you trips to the shop and you can increase your safety just by simply going over your bolts and making sure everything is nice and tight. We reccomend making sure you go over every mounting point bolt for every component on your bike such as, handle bars (like in the photo above), brake calipe...rs mount bolts, derailleur hanger, front derailleur bolt and lastly your brake lever bolts. Always make sure your wheels are mounted properly, bolts tightened if you have bolt on wheels and if you have quick release that your levers are nice and tight. The doc does not reccomend tightening the nipples on the spokes (this will warp your wheel), do not tighten limiter screws for your derailleurs (this will cause shifting problems). Doing any of these things may result in an unwanted visit to the bike doctor :( . If you have any questions on what you should tighten and shouldn't tighten, drop us a question in the comment section, we would love to help!
Did you know oiling the housing of your brake or shifter cables can be the difference maker when it comes to shifting or braking performance? A seized brake line is never fun and having unreliable brakes when riding near motorized vehicles or riding downhill is not recommended by the Doc. At Dr.Cycle Service, oiling of your cable housing comes standard with any and all tune-up packages. Visit Drcycleservice.ca for pricing information, we currently have the most competitive turn over times in the city, hit the "Book Now" button at the top right of the website to book an appointment with the doc! We hope to see you soon!
This is a great question, chainrings are designed this way for an easier shifting. https://www.facebook.com//aska/permalink/2992864370821115/
Good Saturday morning everyone! The Dr wants to know, what bike mechanic question do you have?
You use a computer or phone on your ride? https://youtu.be/z-l7SUSysFA
Getting out early. Enjoy.
The dean of medicine here at Dr. Cycle Service, Dr. Planetman, giving this difficult derailleur a stare-down. Sometimes a little brainstorming is all you need to solve difficult situation.
The doctor's have a deep passion for repairing bikes. The ORs have been full since the end of April and our team couldn't be more appreciative, thank you all for the support our of small business. We also have a passion for riding. We love what Ottawa has to offer when it comes to bike paths and trails. With the spring bike tune-up season in full swing, we don't ride as much but we do squeeze in some rides. I personally love evening rides like the photo above. As the sun sets, it makes for great photos and the wind is usually calm. Evenings like this create such a great mood. What time of day do you love to ride? Wheres your favorite route? Let us know down in the comment section. Happy riding everyone!

We hear the SGEC parkway was packed today. Show us your pics. The Dr's were out trying a Teslica emountian bike and a 20" Fat Bike and noticed a huge upswing in riders!
Keep it up! The REVolution continues https://www.cbc.ca//covid-19-cycling-increase-popularity-d
Drastic times call for drastic measures. The Dr and Dremel were able to extract the failed organ and complete another successful transplant. Rider will be on bike non-rest shortly.... #seized #bottombracket
Hey patients, decent weather returns! What ride do you have lined up?
Do something today that your future self will thank you for. Wishing everyone health, happiness and freedom #lettheridebegin #teslica
