Hi! It's been a while since I last introduced myself and there are lots of new followers here! Thanks for following me and being here. I'm grateful for each and every one of you. I'm Dr. Daina Patel. I help women with chronic neck and back pain. I do this as a chiropractor in Ontario and as a health coach outside of Ontario so it doesn't matter where you live - I can help!... I love helping people reduce their aches and pains (and hopefully get rid of them for good) so they can get back to what's important. I had really bad upper back pain for YEARS and I learned the tools that I needed to manage that pain to the point where I almost never feel it anymore. The things I learned were not the things that I was initially taught that would help me. I spent years trying to figure it out. It came down to making some small changes in my lifestyle that worked for me and didn't ADD more stress into my life - because more stress = more pain! So I made it my mission to help my clients and patients reach their goals of being pain-free and feeling really good and confident in their own body. That's why I created my 3 pillar system that includes movement, nutrition, AND lifestyle. Because a holistic approach is the BEST approach if you want the pain to STAY away. You don't need to do long or hard workouts. You don't need a gym membership or fancy equipment. & you don't even need to leave the house I want to help busy, stressed-out, ambitious women like you who have big goals, just like me, to be able to get rid of your pain so you can have the high-quality life you DESERVE. Back pain isn't just a back problem. It's a whole body problem and it starts from the feet, especially the big toe. Try adding some foot and toe mobility exercises into your daily routine like big toe dorsiflexion (what I'm doing in this image). This exercise can be done in 30 seconds! Self care can show up in many different ways in your life. It can be in the form of doing something to increase happiness or joy, to decrease stress, to improve health, or learning something new. It can look like doing nothing with nobody or it can look like doing all the things with all the people.... There is no rule when it comes to self care. It doesn't need to be a spa day or an epsom salt bath (but it can be if you want!). Whatever you choose to do, do it for you and nobody else. Schedule this date into your calendar and make a commitment to yourself to show up live because your health is WORTH it. YOU are worth it. I'm providing a FREE training that goes over EVERY strategy that I love to use to help reduce pain quickly.... Whenever we are in pain, there are 3 stages that we need to go through to properly treat and hopefully get rid of pain. These stages are: 1 /: this is where the goal is to reduce the pain quickly so you feel better. This is (and should always remain) the shortest stage as we need to move as fast as possible into the next stage. 2 /: This is where we start getting to the root of what is actually is causing the pain as well as where we start healing and repairing the body. This is by far the longest and most important stage. 3 : This is where we maintain the pain-free status and continue to level up our health because this journey doesn't have an end. This happens at your pace with tools and strategies that you can maintain for life without it being a burden. Let's talk about INSTANT PAIN RELIEF for a second. That means significantly reducing pain levels very quickly so you can move through your day with ease and confidence. I listed 3 of my favourite things that I love to do to quickly reduce pain levels so that I can focus on my task at hand and spend more time actually healing the cause of the pain.... These 3 things got me through most of my pain flare ups and I still use them occasionally as needed. It's not a long-term strategy by any means if you truly want to get rid of the pain or want to live a better life but it will help in the moment. Want to learn what they are? Lavender can be really helpful when it comes to relaxing. Especially when you are feeling really stressed out!... Stress usually leads to carrying tension in the upper back/neck and shoulders. This can lead to pain and constant tightness. Eventually this leads to headaches and neck pain as well as bad posture. Untreated, this leads to chronic pain (lasts more than a few days) and can then lead to more stress! Let's break that continuous circle and reduce the pain as well as the stress. Add lavender essential oil in your diffuser in the evening or a few drops into an Epsom salt bath to help you relax and wind down. It's an amazing addition to any bedtime routine. Lavender oil is probably the most researched essential oil, showing that it can provide so many benefits. Happy #worldvegetarianday! I am featuring LENTILS in today's post in honour of World Vegetarian Day. Lentils are a really great vegetarian protein source and are high in fibre as well as many other nutrients.... They can add bulk to a vegetarian meal so you aren't left feeling hungry. I love using them in a Shepherd's Pie recipe without the beef. I challenge anyone who isn't vegan or vegetarian to have one meal today without meat. All of these things are needed in order to truly take of chronic pain. Do you have a treatment plan or strategy that looks at each of these categories? This is the exact approach I take with my clients and patients. Save it so you can use it as a guide for what needs more attention.... If you're currently using a solution that doesn't cover all of these areas, you might not actually have a solution. Instead of treating the pain symptoms, you need support for your entire body to promote healing and for those results to last longer. Chronic pain is really complicated but the solution doesn't need to be. You need a holistic approach, NOT a pain centered one that superficially gets rid of pain. Treat your body like a temple. Eat well. Get enough sleep.... Move every single day. It is capable of SO much and can heal from chronic pain. There is a mind-body connection when it comes to pain and loving your body and treating it well are JUST as important as all the other stuff. Let's talk about inflammation and how it's the root of so many conditions, including heart disease and diabetes, some of the most prevalent conditions out there. But did you know that your inflammation levels are also correlated to pain? Higher levels of inflammation systemically (all over the body) as well as localized inflammation at the site of injury are both underlying things that need to be addressed when looking at chronic (but also acute) pain.... The inflammatory cells that are part of the inflammation cascade that happens in response to something (that something can vary depending on what's going on in your life) are what make you more sensitive to pain. The longer you are exposed to that inflammation, usually the worse you feel as something called central sensitization tends to kick in and then we have even more sensitivity to pain. The key is to reduce that inflammatory load as much as possible through movement, diet, and lifestyle. If you only choose one or two areas, you are ignoring a significant portion of your life. Your health is completely in YOUR hands. It's YOUR choice. YOU decide where you want to go. Once you've made the choice to get better, that's when the healing starts. But first you must choose. That's the first step. I'd also argue that it's the hardest step. It's a long, tough road ahead, but I can help you (if you want).
