When Patrick built his garlic dibbler back on October 22, we did not foresee that we would still be out in the field on November 22, covering up the last of our 3000 bulbs, just as the snow was falling. Putting up a few greenhouses got in the way of garlic progress for a while there, but we got it all done, in the end! As for the dibbler...using it to make multiple holes in the soil at once for the garlic to be planted in sounded great in theory. But, in practice, it barely made a dent in our clay soil! After 6 solid days of work and with the support of various crews of friends and family, the greenhouses were finished just in time for weather-warning-worthy winds! Renting a skyjack proved to be a game-changer, as it enabled us to put up our end walls in only half the time that it had been taking us with extension ladders! Our backs and knees are sore and our thumbs and fingers are callused but, after a day of intense wind, with gusts over 60 km/hr at times, the greenhouses are still standing and we are feeling pretty proud. Thank you to all who came out to help us - we are profoundly grateful to each and every one of you.
