The pandemic had a significant impact on Dreams Take Flight this year and our chapters have been innovative in continuing our efforts of bringing magical memories to special kids. With the support of major donors, national sponsors and 140 volunteers, Dreams Take Flight Calgary came up with #DreamsOhanaChristmas. Ohana is a Hawaiian term for family and we wanted to bring 109 southern Alberta families into our Ohana, including 300 children and 200 adults. With new restriction...s now in effect in Alberta, our volunteers expedited the process and many teams delivered the hampers this past weekend with the rest being delivered in the coming days, ensuring that all restrictions and protocols are followed. Jeanne, an original member of Dreams Take Flight, passed away in her sleep last Thursday. When Dreams first started in Winnipeg twenty-eight years ago, Jeanne was the driving force for the flight attendant group . We took on all kinds of endeavors to raise money for the flight. Jeanne always hosted the meetings at her beautiful home that she shared with her two children and husband Ron. Jeanne had a brilliant idea about having a fundraiser on the River Rouge. While cr...uising down the Red River, we had a silent auction, funny money casino, food, and lots of dancing. She became our Diamond Lil! The cruises always sold out, and were a tremendous amount of fun. There are so many great memories of Jeanne. At Disney World, as a group leader, the kids always listened to her. She was firm, but made sure her kids had that magical day we all strive for as a group leader. We’ll all miss you Jeanne. Tomorrow would have been Day of Flight for Dreams Take Flight Calgary. The Dreams Family, our Ohana, would be completing final checks to make sure that everything was ready here in Calgary, while volunteers already in Los Angeles, would be attending their final briefing before getting some sleep. The kids would likely all be in bed right now, but with so much excitement, would not get much sleep.
