I am seeing so many posts about "cant wait to see 2020 over and done with!" "what a horrible year its been", and similar sentiments of people who want to flush the year down the toilet. My experience is that 2020 has been an outstanding year. I have grown in many ways, revisited what is most vital and important, prioritized my success habits, had more fun, created more wealth, and achieved my vision. ... I just can't "write off" an entire year and rush to say goodbye to my experience, and the growth and progress I have seen in others around me. I say "goodbye" to 2020 with a smile for the lessons I learned, the progress I made, the relationships that grew, and much more! I am not in any way downplaying the suffering that Covid 19 has brought to the world, and the losses and difficulties that have gone along with it. It has been tremendously difficult to not be able to be physically present with loved ones, to know of the financial difficulties fellow business owners are struggling with, and to be concerned about staying healthy. And yet, to build our resiliency capability, we need to find the good even in disruption. It actually means being grateful for the disruption that happens in our lives, which can often act as a catalyst. It's about learning to ride the waves of disruption, and to also take in the calm waters and be grateful for them. Anyone else in the same frame of mind about 2020?

Thumbs Up or Down? As I talk and read feedback from other business owners, I'm hearing mixed feedback about 2020. Some say it's been a terrible year and they have really struggled to keep their doors open.... Others say they have done really well and that they've made a lot of progress in 2020. Progress can of course be measured in many ways; growth (both business and personal), expansion of freedom, improvement of relationships (clients, suppliers, collaborators), and many more! For me, 2020 has been a year of incredible progress. To build on the momentum, I've been working on my 2021 plan recently. Cash flow, marketing, strategic alliances. The plan is coming together and I'm excited! If you need help with your 2021 plan, strategic planning is one of my favorite things to do. I'm happy to jump on a collaboration call Thursday morning this week.

I'm in celebration mode this week. Today I'm celebrating women entrepreneurs. Kudos and appreciation to the women entrepreneurs who are making a positive impact! Other than a few part time jobs in my teens, I've only ever worked for myself. When I look back over the decades, I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to do so. Despite the sleepless nights, stressors, and challenges, it's all been worth it. Personally, I have an especially high regard for those women who work with their spouses; that adds a whole extra level of challenge in our business and our personal lives. If you are a growth minded woman working with your spouse, I'd love to connect and collaborate.

This hot air balloon floated by the window at my office a couple of days ago. Im taking it as a reminder to rise above, observe the beautiful scenery all around, and most importantly to enjoy the ride. In these challenging times I make it a daily practice to spend time every day thinking about things to be grateful for. Even on difficult days I know I can count on and be grateful for the cup of coffee my husband makes for me every morning, to the fresh clean water I drink... throughout the day, to the clean sheets I sleep on at night. These things are so much more abundance than many people on this planet have. It is so easy to take them for granted. Gratitude and training my brain to look for what is going right helps me ride the waves of disruption happening in our world right now.

"Riding the waves" is an important part of my work, and how I consult with my clients to help them succeed in business. Part of riding the waves is community. It's about having people around you who will help out when you feel like you are about to drown as a business owner. People you know have the same values, people who want to make an impact, people who want to make a difference. On this Fabulous Friday afternoon, I'm asking my community to help make a positive... difference. Several weeks ago, one of my employees' husband was randomly attacked in downtown Kitchener, leading to severe brain injury. He continues to need medical intervention on a regular basis. This has been an incredibly difficult time for Sabryna and Andy and their family. It is unlikely Andy will ever work again, leaving Sabryna raising their family on her single income. Over the past few weeks, I have personally been inspired by Sabryna's resilience during this tsunami of emotions and disruption. She has stayed strong for her family, her coworkers, our clients, and myself. Beyond the emotional turmoil, the harsh reality is that there is a significant financial impact on their family. I am sharing the go fund me link here so that you can read more, and if you feel inspired to do so, to make a contribution. And of course please share the link if you feel compelled to do so. https://www.gofundme.com/f/bauer-family-emergency

Summer officially ends in a few days. I can always tell we are getting close when the water level at the lake quickly drops. We just pulled our boat out for the season and I'll admit I shed a few tears as we had our last run of the season. Were you able to make progress in your business despite the disruption this summer? To appreciate sunsets knowing you'd done your very best that day in business and give yourself time to reflect and rest?... Did you find that your business acted as a metaphor for your purpose? Autumn is a perfect time to reset, to re-assess how you are demonstrating your values, to review your vision, and to revisit your purpose.
