Red winged blackbird out #elkislandnationalpark awhile back. The species, one of the most abundant in all of North America, has experienced a decrease in population over the past 40 years. It's nice to be able to see them regularly so close and personal.

Only got a few shots of this guy before he flew off. First time for me seeing a Northern Flicker. Northern Flickers are large, brown woodpeckers with a gentle expression and handsome black-scalloped plumage. On walks, don’t be surprised if you scare one up from the ground. It’s not where you’d expect to find a woodpecker, but flickers eat mainly ants and beetles, digging for them with their unusual, slightly curved beak.
