A HUGE THANK YOU AND SHOUT OUT TO A MAIDSTONE DENTAL HERO - Joanne K Pictured below, L to R - Daina, Joanne (our hero!!) and Dr. Ellis One of the recent challenges we have faced at the clinic and in dentistry abroad is a lack of the new PPE we are required to wear to perform certain dental procedures. The pic below shows a couple of us in our new gear of gown, surgical cap, face shield and a N95 mask with another mask on top ... We quickly realized that the gowns, surgical caps and masks are very hard to come by right now. Daina, one of our awesome team members had let Dr. Ellis know that her mom, Joanne is a talented seamstress and could maybe look at making us some gowns and caps. Less than two weeks later we now have all the reusable gowns and masks we could need to last a long time. THANK YOU JOANNE for sharing your talent with us and for working around the clock so we could have a part of the gear we need to be open and helping patients. Your work is remarkable and the gowns and caps are awesome!!!! We have had other heroes in the form of patients and friends/family of our team help out by surprising us with N95 mask donations. We could not be more appreciative.....we have not yet been able to find a single source of legitimate N95 or KN95 masks (we have been the victims of counterfeit sales which was disappointing). We have been accumulating these N95 masks and are even open only based on the generosity of others. Thank you to all of you!! Our gratitude is immeasurable. Daina Kissick McGowan

Covid-19 Update: It was great to hear today that dental was a part of the Phase I Re-open Saskatchewan Plan set to commence for May 4, 2020. That was an excellent first announcement to start off a series of a few steps that will have to take place in the coming days and weeks to fully re-open our clinic. The next step for us will be to await the direction from our regulatory body for further instruction and details on this re-opening. ... As a team, we will continue to work hard to have everything in place to re-open in a compliant, safe and effective manner as soon as we have all the information to formulate a plan. We have already been putting measures in place to be ready ongoing since March. Rest assured, we will open as soon as we can. Stay tuned for details!! What do you do when you cant see and help patients at the office due to COVID?? Why you take online courses to better care for those patients in the future of course Dr. Ellis is registered for 20 days of continuing education in the coming weeks. Learning valuable information on topics like TMJ, headaches, cbct scans, digital smile design, virtual consults, prf, myofunctional therapy and the list goes on. Our hygienist, Trent, spent two days this week learning about the... latest and greatest hygiene techniques and information. Jackie S, our treatment coordinator has been and will be in courses with Dr. Ellis all month as well. Daina has been busy taking her modules for dental assisting. Our entire team is committed to constantly bettering ourselves and life long learning. Health is on the forefront of our minds as COVID has greatly affected our lives. Over the next couple weeks, we will share some health tips to help along the way. The first one is the importance of sunlight!!... Sunlight promotes the natural release of Vit D which in turn boosts our immune system. Vit D is a very important supplement. In Saskatchewan especially this March/April, we are forced to embrace the snow and cold to get any sort of sunlight. I have enjoyed some outdoor time with my family. We all look forward to when spring and summer comes and we can enjoy the outdoors and warmth! Take care everyone!!

To our valued patients and friends I am writing you today to provide you with some information regarding the COVID-19 outbreak and more specifically how we at Maidstone Dental are responding to and helping manage this unfortunate situation. We continue to monitor daily messages from our Saskatchewan Health Minister on best practices and measures we believe will best protect our patients and team members while at Maidstone Dental.... At this point, we will be open for business and the following is our action plan to ensure you feel safe when visiting the office in the coming days and weeks: 1. We will continue to maintain our rigorous level of infection control that you are accustomed to at Maidstone Dental. As dentists, we are held to hospital grade infection control levels and this brings great protection and comfort to our patients and team. 2. We will be practicing extra vigilance with all surfaces in the patient lounge, check out room and patient washroom. We are wiping these rooms down several times a day with disinfectant. 3. We will also be wiping down door handles several times a day. 4. We will have the recommended signage from our SK dental college on our office door asking patients with any symptoms or a fever to not enter the office but to simply call our office and we will be happy to reschedule their appointment. 5. We will be taking temperatures on all patients as a first step in their appointment. We will be taking a daily temperature on all team members as well. 6. We generally like to shake hands with our patients but will be limiting that type of greeting. 7. Currently, we are well-stocked with our face masks, gloves, and hand sanitizer. Instituting these higher standards will help aid in the health and safety for you and our entire team. As always we are honored to be a health care partner with each of you, and care about each of you. We hope that this helps clarify how your interaction will be with our team and office. Its hard to believe that this week last year in 2019 was the week we took possession of our clinic building on Main Street and started construction of what we know and love today as Maidstone Dental. It has been an amazing year of hard work, dedication, goal setting, planning, growth, change and ongoing advancement. A big shout out and thanks to all our awesome patients who have been braving the cold to come to their appointments these last couple days. You are all true Saskatchewan/Prairie folk. This was our first patient today who bundled up and WALKED....YES WALKED across town for an 8am appointment bc her car wouldnt start. Now thats commitment. Needless to say we happily gave her a ride home! Stay warm out there everyone. ... And if you do happen to have an appointment this week, not to worry....we have a hot drink, cozy blankets, and amazing warm wheat bags available and ready for everyone when they arrive to warm you up

This past week two of our awesome team members....our hygienist (Kelsey) and our dental aide (Daina).....visited the kindergarten kids in Maidstone, Lashburn and Paradise Hill. They had the opportunity to teach the kids about brushing, flossing and how different types of foods can cause cavities and others can help prevent cavities. Thanks ladies for your great work! We love giving back to our communities.
