Brian McFarlane has been appointed to the Order of Canada -- one of our country’s highest civilian honours -- for his contributions to the sport of hockey, as a sportscaster, writer and historian. He’s also a resident of Markham-Stouffville! Yesterday, I delivered a Member's statement about his impressive achievements.
Today, we reached a critical milestone in our fight against COVID-19: the first COVID-19 vaccine has been approved by Health Canada. 30,000 doses are expected to arrive as early as Monday at the 14 points of shipment across the country. Up to 249,000 doses are coming this month, with millions more in the new year. For more information, please see: http://ow.ly/ikY750CGWQr
Over the past 10 months, our government has been working hard to fight COVID-19 and keep Canadians safe. That’s our top priority, but that doesn’t mean it’s our only priority. As our government works to protect and support Canadians during the pandemic, we also need to lay the foundation for a better future. Climate change remains one of the greatest challenges of our times. Just like with COVID-19, ignoring the risks of climate change will only make the costs higher and the ...long-term consequences worse. That’s why our government is continuing to take action in the fight against climate change. We’ve tabled legislationas part of our commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Countries around the world are accelerating their transition to a net-zero economy. Our plan to achieve net-zero is about creating a healthier environmentit’s also a plan to build a cleaner, more competitive economy. We need to seize the opportunity. On Friday, I visited ‘Archaeology Alive!’ at the Whitchurch-Stouffville Museumwinner of the 2020 Ontario Museum Association’s Award of Excellence in Exhibitions. The exhibit focuses on the Jean-Baptiste Lainé archaeological site, which, in the late 16th century, was a remarkable Huron-Wendat community. The exhibit provides a window into that time. ‘Archaeology Alive!’ is the product of a lot of hard work by the museum, their staff and partners -- in particular, the important collaboration between the museum and the Huron-Wendat. Thank you so much to the museum’s Curator/Supervisor Krista Rauchenstein for providing me with a wonderful tour! For more on the exhibit, please visit: https://bit.ly/2ILklcP
Yesterday in the House, I asked the Minister of Health what our government is doing to support Ontario's response to the pandemic. Her answer was impressive. Please see below.
