How is it already the end of January? We want to welcome a new member to our team, Jordan! Jordan joined us at the beginning of the month as a Structural Technologist. He studied Architectural Technologies in Building Science at @saskpolytech and also obtained a degree in Construction Management. He enjoys architectural design and drafting and is excited to delve into structural design. In Jordan’s leisure time, he enjoys staying active at the gym and playing sports. H...e has also recently gained a new interest in building computers and gaming! Fun fact: Jordan has been a registered Emergency Medical Responder with the Saskatchewan Health Authority for 8 years!

After work...ing with the Greenstone team on a handful of projects, she has become one of our go-to structural engineers! If you’ve had damage to your property as a result of last week’s #AlbertaClipper, we feel for you! While we count ourselves lucky, pictured is the destruction to Scott’s lean-to. We also feel for communities who have lost iconic buildings or structures such as the 113 year old Sanborn Round Barn near Drinkwater; Ogema’s brick firewall; and the steeple of the former Roman Catholic Church in Milestone, among others. Some factors that affect wind load resistance are:... -geographic location - some places are windier than others; -building importance - hospitals and other buildings identified as post-disaster buildings must be designed to withstand a greater wind load. On the other hand, farm buildings are only required to be designed for a 1:10 year event; -building dimensions: taller and skinnier buildings are more susceptible to wind effects than lower square buildings -building exposure - a building at the top of a hill is more susceptible to wind than a building surrounded by tall trees or buildings; -quantity and size of openings and the likelihood of openings being open during a storm; and -presence and strength of lateral load resisting systems such as shear walls or lateral braces. We were proud to provide structural engineering services for a new dressing room for the Carrot River Outback Thunder! While it may be a small project, it is meaningful. Katelyn Sebastian spent many early mornings, evenings, and weekends at that rink growing up, playing hockey and ringette!
