Hey All, The Dalhousie Yacht Club is now welcoming applications for DYC Summer Social Members as a limited time offer. DM me for details and anyone in my network can put me down as a reference(maybe not everyone- you know who you are)... Seriously though- DYC and the Sunset Dining room is one of Niagara’s best kept secrets. The best part? You get to hang out with me all summer. https://www.dalhousieyachtclub.com/events/ dyc-summer-social-membership

Stocking of Love Thank you from Janice. As the saying goes it ‘Takes a Village’ - this Christmas ‘It Took a Port’... On December 5th, it was through a sleepy bedtime notion that the Stocking of Love project was born. Next morning it was with minimal effort over coffee I contacted the BWC and with Ed Buchan’s help the word was spread. And with that word the kind people of Port Dalhousie made themselves known. The initiative was to create a moment of happiness for the elderly in Homes, alone or sick at Christmas. Everyone loves a Christmas Stockingthe idea being to bring forth a smile reminiscent of years gone by. Affordable to most, I also considered the donators and their joy in participating. Chartering into unknown territory, I took baby steps. When researching appropriate establishments, I discovered Tufford Nursing Home to be a good fit and committed to 80 Christmas stockings stuffed with useful goodies, candies and love. Within days supporters came out of the wood work and I realized my vision was shared by many wonderful people. With the support of the BWC and the community, it was with DIY flyers and hope in hand that I attended the Christmas Market where the awareness began. In the days following flyers were delivered door to door and local shopkeepers and restaurants did their best to promote the cause. By December 18thjust 2 weeks after inception the quota was filled to provide for every male and female resident of Tufford! The last week prior to Christmas stockings were flowing insome in very large numbers. With only days before Christmas, what began as a need for 80 stockings resulted in my scurrying around to find more homes that fit the cause and the numbers and gender. It was tricky but what was important at such a late date is that every single stocking was to be received by a person of intent. Honoring the donator was of equal importance. Since December 5th we had received over 120 stockings and by Christmas Eve 148! The result: your generosity provided for not only Tufford but every Long-Term resident at Ina Grafton Gage Village Nursing Home. As well each patient of the Hospice Niagara Stabler Centre in St. Catharines received a stocking plus elderly residents in need living in Port Dalhousie via the Church’s recommendations. On Christmas Eve whilst still receiving stockings at my door I called the St. Catharines hospital and arranged to deliver the balance of stockings to the oncology unit Christmas morning. This endeavor was entirely made possible by the kind people that surround us here in Port every day, as well as many in St. Catharines. With too many people to thankyou know who you are, and I appreciate your encouraging words and enthusiasm to support this project next year. Clearly, I will be starting earlier, in what I refer to as Post-Beach Era which is November Seriously, early October I shall get on with it as media coverage will enable us to provide several nursing homes with hundreds of stockings in 2019. Already I have a commitment to fulfill Linhaven Nursing Home with over 200 residents! I welcome assistance. The Stocking of Love project was a community endeavor. Sincere gratitude to everyone who helped me and to those who contributed stockings. Each stocking was beautiful and stuffed full of thought. Every single person should be very proud of the love they gave and the smiles they created this holiday season. I am so very grateful to live here surrounded by such goodness. Thank you! *A special thank you to Imast at Your Boutique for serving as a delivery location which helped immensely

Looking to get into the holiday spirit? Well then head to Port Dalhousie this weekend as it turns into a Winter Wonderland. Festivities kick off on Friday nig...ht with the opening of the Port Dalhousie Christmas Market and the Lock & Main Winter Wonderland. On Saturday evening there is the 4th Annual Port Dalhousie Lantern Stroll - take a stroll and visit the different vignettes as they sing carols. Have plans on Fri and Sun - well luckily both markets will still be running Sunday. It will be a fun filled holiday weekend with some great artisan vendors, live music, food and drinks in #OurHomeSTC. Great to see the support and participation through the many Port Dalhousie businesses - This & That Creations / Mason Lights, Dalhousie Living Lock Street Brewing Company and many more. Shout out to Jeff Mackie - thank you for all your work and vision for making this an annual event. Also thank you to the Port Dalhousie Beautification and Works Committee for the initiative you have taken for many events in Port.
